“Stay here if you are in Granada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

You can not come to Granada without checking out and checking into this "hostel." I had been to two other hostels and one was horrible and the other was nearly so, before I looked at this one. It is old colonial style, with beautiful gardens, pool and orginal art on the walls. This is a beautiful house that has been converted to a hostel on one side and a hotel (being built with craftsman) on the other. The furniture is custom made and the matresses are the best I have had in Centeral America. The price is a bit higher then other hostels ($12) for a dorm but then you get what you pay for. Yes, you can get a hostel room for $6 a night elsewhere, but at $12 a night for what you get is CHEAP.
The kitchen has a working real gas stove as well as a gas grill for grilling. It also has a refrigorator that works extremely well. There is also HOT water. What a difference that makes for comfort!
Don't walk but run to this quiet, peacful and stunning hostel.

Room Tip: They have private rooms as well as dorms. Look at both and ask the price before deciding.

Throughout my travels around Costa Rica and Nicaragua I stayed at numerous hotels and hostels; Backpackers Inn was by far the best place compared to the others!! Excellent price and amazing hospitality. It's close to all of the action (Central Park) yet at the same time its located in a safe, quite area. It's absolutely stunning having a colonial feel with huge pillars, vaulted ceilings and a beautiful garden. Not to mention, a pool, hammocks and wonderful staff that will make you feel at home. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. If you go to Grenada and don't stay here you would be missing out BIG TIME. Enjoy!

We happened upon Backpacker's Inn purely by luck. From the name I expected a pretty basic hostel. What I found was a great place that I can't wait to return to. The courtyard is the first thing you see and it is beautiful and tranquil. Our bedroom was super clean as well as were the bathrooms. There is a big pool from which you can see one of the bigger steeples. The kitchen is very modern, and Rosa always has hot coffee on (as well as a great smile)! Hot water! Great water pressure! Did I mention very clean and comfortable! There is a tv if your into that or you can lay in the giant hammock by the pool and read a book. We will be back!

I've lived in Nicaragua for a few years and always come to this hotel when we're in Granada for the weekend! It is by far the best value for your money and I fully recommend it.
The hotel is located just 3 blocks from the Central Park in a very safe and quiet area so all the best restaurants and bars are only minutes away walking.
Backpackers Inn caters to all types of travellers (budget backpackers, couples, families, etc) at a very reasonable price. They've put incredible attention to detail in the room designs (REAL mattresses, 25 ft high ceilings, original wood doors), the modern bathrooms (with hot water!), landscaped courtyard, and fully equiped kitchen for guests to use. You get all the luxury without having to pay the high end price!
The staff are very friendly and helpful and can give information about the town or help arrange taxis.
Last time we were there, they were just about finished building brand new private rooms with a beautiful swimming pool in the courtyard that is already available to guests...such a nice relief from the Granada heat!
All in all, a great home base in Granada. 100% recommended.

We had a wonderful 6 days stay at Backpackers Inn. This centrally-located Nica-owned hotel is a lovely colonial house with a pretty garden in a central courtyard, fancy woodworking and furniture, and beautiful artworks. This place is geared to the fancy, “upscale", backpacker, the “bourgeois bohême", which is perfect for families with young kids. During our stay, it was very quiet and peaceful. Our family had a very spacious, sumptuous room (the one mentioned in the first review below; we didn’t have any cold shower and toilet flush problems, though), and the other family travelling with us had a room just as large and charming as ours. There was a full kitchen we could use, laundry service, free Internet access, and the staff was warm and personable (gracias Doña Rosa y Doña Josmelina!). The hotel is expected to extend to the next courtyard; during our stay in late march, 2011, we were the privileged first ones to take a dip the brand new pool!

What a weird hotel! We got a super fancy room, very spacious and with dark colonial wood, for only about US$25 per night. So the room itself was very fancy, bit of a pity there was no daylight... but the bathroom was very small, and the toilet didn't flush properly. I had to ask for a bucket. The shower only gave cold water which was in contrast with the fanciness of the room.

The ceiling was very high but the wall was not closed at the top, the pointy roof left a hole of about a full meter. So you could litterally hear your neighbours walk around their room, let alone talk. Again, very strange when you look at how posh the place looked.

The coartyard is very pretty with tropical plants. But they also have dorm rooms and a kitchen, and were building more dorms, so what kind of crowd are they trying to attract? Dorms tend to attract younger and rowdier people. It doesn't quite go with the poshness of the place.

There was lots of noise from working men.

All in all I find it hard to rate this place... but I hope this review helps other people decide! I guess for backpackers who don't mind a dorm bed, this could be a posh experience in an excellent location.
