“An amazing stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

My girlfriend and I took a 2 week trip through Nicaragua and Costa Rica and during that time, Hotel La Bocona easily ranked first out of all the hotels, B&Bs, and hostels. The interior of the hotel features nothing short of a museum (the owner actually curated "el museo", which is right around the corner). With beautiful paintings hung all over the walls, pre-colombian ceramics lining the hallways, and a gorgeous architectural layout, we felt like a king and queen during our stay. Every morning we awoke to a delicious, healthy, complimentary breakfast, which also may have been some of the best food we ate during our vacation. The hotel is situated right in downtown Granada, near many bars, tasty restaurants (we ate at El Tercer Ojo and I'd highly recommend it!), and anything else you might need.

The friendly staff quickly won over our hearts and the hotel manager, Miguel, even went so far as to pick us up from the airport and, at the end of our stay, drive us all the way to San Juan del Sur. On our way to SJDS, Miguel showed us some scenic views of Volcán Concepción, Volcán Maderas, and Isla de Ometepe after stopping at local fruit stands, where we enjoyed CHEAP mangos, pineapples, and the largest avocado we have ever seen. He also arranged a spectacular tour through Las Isletas for us, where we were picked up in horse and buggy and given a tour through the 365 islets in Lake Nicaragua.

Overall, we had, as the title says, an amazing stay. The rooms were spacious, the bed comfortable, the staff incredibly friendly, and we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you to everyone at Hotel La Bocona and we hope to see you again in the future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street if possible. However, there is a lot of honking throughout the c...

We stayed here 2 nights on a recent anniversary trip to Nicaragua. The hotel is beautiful and the pool area is the perfect place to spend a little relaxation in the afternoon when the heat of the day is oppressive in the city. Breakfast was also delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Our first night there was a problem with the switch to turn off the air conditioning and the staff had it fixed almost immediately. The staff also helped us arrange transfer to our next location at a very fair rate. (Note if you read reviews that say to book transfers online ahead of time through car services you will pay about twice the going rate)
The bathrooms being outside of the rooms is not an issue. We stayed in the hotel when it was quite busy and still felt very secluded and the hotel robes and slippers are very comfy.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we had an outside room and the street is very loud with every car going past at night seemingly beeping their horn. A pair of earplugs is necessary for a light sleeper such as myself. I really don't believe you wouldn't have this problem in any of the major hotels in Granada though.

We celebrated our 20th anniversary at La Bocona (Feb 16-23, 2014). While there we ran into shipping issues that caught us off guard. the general manager (Miguel) went far above the call of duty to get a resolution. We enjoyed a fabulous Nicaraguan breakfast every morning, served to us in the beautiful courtyard by a wonderful staff. Room #1 was beautiful, spacious with AC, in room safe, ceiling fan, and the must comfortable bed we had ever slept on! The private bathroom (located across the courtyard) was huge! The hotels water supply is hooked up to the city's system, so you can actually brush your teeth with & drink the tap water through out downtown Granada! The hotel is located close to central park, the Calzada, supermarket, bars & restaurants. The La Bocona is a gem in paradise! We would like to thank Miguel & staff for making our 20th anniversary a memorable one!!! We will be back to stay again next year!!!

I stayed here with my family for a couple of nights and was amazed by the hotels beauty. It is situated in a nice and local area of Granada and we felt quite safe walking around, even in the night. It is just a hop away from all the bars and restaurants. We were well looked after and pampered with a beautiful breakfast. The rooms are amazing and I slept like a princess in those very comfortable bed. Bathrooms are across the garden but that did not bother me at all. Its nice to walk through this nice garden and its only a few meters anyway. It might not be ok for all people, so be aware of that. The swimming pool looks and feels amazing. One of the nicest hotels I ever stayed in.

I was dazzled by the simplicity and beauty of La Bocona. This is the place to be pampered! To begin with, the over-sized rooms have huge poster beds draped in mosquito netting piped in satin. One night in that bed and you feel you are a princess! Take one of those white spa robes and slippers to go outside your room and have your morning coffee on the sofa listening to the birds and looking at the garden. When you are ready for breakfast go sit at a table by the pool and order up a crepe or omelete so deliciously prepared by the staff. Speaking of staff, they are most attentive and eager to please. We asked them about the famous Nacatamal and before we knew it the staff decided on who sold the best one in town and they had yummy Nacatamals delivered for us to try! Can't beat that! Enjoy the pool and the quietness of being in the most authentically restored colonial home in Granada. Don't forget that they offer spa amenities as well. had a marvelous massage. This place is a winner!

If you wake up at the Hotel La Bocona, you're doing something right in life. Utterly charming - the rooms live up to every photograph: impossibly high ceilings, inviting, elegant surroundings and a charming garden courtyard for breakfast. The staff was great and arranged drivers for us - including the 4 am drive to the Managua airport. If you're worried about the non-in suite bathrooms, don't be. They're private so you can spread out and the hotel provides robes and it's really rather nice crossing the darkened plaza and watching the moonlight glitter along the tiles as you cross the small courtyard. Two words for you: stay here.

To All,
I am a Canadian traveller from Vancouver, BC.

At 2pm, Friday March 14, I had had my bag stollen during checkin at the Hotel. The hotel is rectangular and is situated on the corner of the block. The only entrance to the hotel is on the corner of the building facing the middle of the intersection. The person that is responsible for the theft was eating in the lobby as we were checking in. The lobby is very small and the only people in the lobby had been my fiancé, myself, the receptionist, a housekeeping staff member and the perpetrator. After the incident happen I asked the staff who the man in the lobby was and they said they did not know. They tried saying that he came in with is but he definitely did not and had been in the lobby as we entered. The police were called and I spent the whole day filing the report. I do believe that one or more staff members may have been involved. It had been a very calculated theft and the window of opportunity had been mere minutes. After the incident I had also spoken with the male hotel manager and mentioned that it seemed that the staff may have been involved. He responded to me very aggressively and stated "we don't need your money" and was very unhelpful. The only nice and helpful people ended up being a female manager from the hotel and a tourist police officer. Currently I am waiting to see if there is any updates on my case, but honestly I have very little hope that anything will be done.

Well this is my story. I hope it helps travelers to have extra awareness of what can happen even at a high end hotel in Nicaragua.

Sincerely
