“Great if you have a vehicle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

We stayed at the Dolphin for 4 weeks. We found it to be a little oasis after the heat of the day in the city where we were volunteering for a few weeks. There is a pool but the pool staff had some challenges with balancing the chemicals despite maintaining it every week day. You can walk to the grocery stores along the highway and it takes about half an hour. We rented bicycles which reduced our trips to 10 minutes but the tires kept going flat so we gave in and rented a car - very inexpensive.

We had room #4 with the Juliet balcony and the great views of Volcan Mombacho. The hotel's top patio provides amazing views and a quiet place to read or do yoga as it is seldom used by other guests. To get there, you have to climb the stairs at the back towards unit #4 and then take the spiral stairs to the top of the building.

The Dolphin is ideal for people staying for an extended period of time as the daily rates drop significantly for a stay over 2 weeks. You will be in the suburbs and walking to the city is not very realistic considering the heat. If you rent a car, the Dolphin is a good option.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the balcony and book for a longer period of time to get the best value for you...

My husband and I, along with another couple, spent a week at Hotel Dolphin in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. It was our first time traveling out of the USA and everything went very smoothly- thanks mostly to the staff very friendly and helpful. The home and the grounds were beautiful, spacious and secluded. We had a view of lake from terrace and the volcano. We had a nice fresh hot breakfast every morning at the Gazebo. , and we hated to say good by at the end of the week. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We stayed upstairs with a balcony over looking the pool and a great view of the volcano. The room had a full kitchen and was huge. We had no air but the fans kept us comfortable. We had a rental car to get us to Granada which was 5 minutes away where we bought groceries and liquor. I definitely recommend the third floor balcony for drinks in the evening. If we go back to Granada we will stay there again.

Home away from home, but better :) What a relief!
We stayed for a few weeks in a spacious, ground floor room with a full kitchen, private bathroom, two beds and sitting area - Great size for my family - with fresh flowers daily.
Breakfast was available but it's close to the better supermarkets so we could get more variety of food. The pool and pool table kept my kids entertained on days to hot to roam and battle the crowds at busier sectors :)

Room Tip: Get one of the pool side suites if you have a group along. The top floor rooms are cooler though...

The revamp of the hotel by the new management has been great!
I’m impressed by the improvements and the care that has been taken with the detail that make a stay there so nice. The entire place is spotless and the new staff could not be more helpful. I’ve stayed here several times through the years particularly because of the security, gardens and friendly atmosphere, but now I’ve enjoyed it even more! It’s so convenient to be able to spend a lazy day enjoying pool side cocktails or taking advantage of the free wifi.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor offer the most privacy and the best views. Great for star gazing

Dolphin is waaaay too far outside of town, well beyond walking distance, taxis are not easy to come by, it's not clean, staff not helpful, no breakfast, no food at all. Benjamin, the owner, was standoffish and rude. Stay elsewhere!

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. Our goal is to provide excellent service. As you can see, from previous reviews, they were positive. During the month of December we went through new changes at Dolphin. This included new management operated by Group Xalteva. We do want to affirm you that our pictures of Dolphin are real, and that we have always provided clean rooms and a helpful staff. We have a good size pool and it is clean. There was a problem in December, but that is corrected. We are a 6 minute drive from Calzada Street, we do have a list of taxi drivers available any time our guests require them. Again, we apologized for any inconvenience, this may have caused you, and we are striving to make future stays great.

the owners of this hotel have gone through a bad divorce and the hotel is dirty and the family members are living in it. The pool has not been cleaned in months, the rooms are dirty and the kitchen is filthy. There was never a breakfast offered, the bar was dry and they take your money ahead of time and don't refund when you want to leave. 4 guests when I arrived left within days because of the conditions. There are many nice boutique hotels in Granada. Don't waste your money on this one.

Room Tip: book into the Best Western it is clean and friendly, breakfast is served every morning and there is...
