We stayed at the Dolphin for 4 weeks. We found it to be a little oasis after the heat of the day in the city where we were volunteering for a few weeks. There is a pool but the pool staff had some challenges with balancing the chemicals despite maintaining it every week day. You can walk to the grocery stores along the highway and it takes about half an hour. We rented bicycles which reduced our trips to 10 minutes but the tires kept going flat so we gave in and rented a car - very inexpensive.
We had room #4 with the Juliet balcony and the great views of Volcan Mombacho. The hotel's top patio provides amazing views and a quiet place to read or do yoga as it is seldom used by other guests. To get there, you have to climb the stairs at the back towards unit #4 and then take the spiral stairs to the top of the building.
The Dolphin is ideal for people staying for an extended period of time as the daily rates drop significantly for a stay over 2 weeks. You will be in the suburbs and walking to the city is not very realistic considering the heat. If you rent a car, the Dolphin is a good option.
