We pre paid for our trip here and booked 5 nights, but we're leaving a day early. It's very run down in the actual rooms, nothing has been touched in years- mould on the doors, stench in the loo and dirt on the bedding.

We went for the private pool villa and the pool was dirty, never cleaned, with empty coke cans and shower gel pouches around the pool area from the previous guests.

The room service/ food delivery bit didn't understand any English to take orders which isn't useful.
Room service just make the bed, no clean sheets or towels our entire stay and there was still dirt on the netting around the bed.

The location isn't great either, you must hire a car or bike as it's miles from anything to do/places to eat etc.

The beach is pretty dirty and littered with rubbish too, on the plus eat at Lisca beach (just out and down the beach to the left) it's great Thai/ Italian food. The restaurant is way overpriced in the hotel.

Staff here haven't been as welcoming (except the reception staff)t with no one making any form of eye contact or welcoming a guest.

Overall I wish I listened to the bad reviews and didn't waste my money.- don't to the same, it's not a quiet hideaway for couples looking to relax!

Ps. After having called room service twice I'm still staring at my empty plates two hours later....

The Mecure Koh Chang Hideaway is overall an amazing
hotel with beautiful location and facilities.
Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

ROOM - Our room was a low cost one, therefore it was not
the most luxurious but for the price we paid it was
absolutely alright and clean.
The aircon broke a few times which was annoying but upon
request they came and fixed it straight away so nothing
to argue about regarding service.

BEACH - We totally enjoyed the Happy Hour by the pool every day
and also in the evenings and loved the private bay
with the little Italian restaurant LISCA right down
the left hand side(I CAN ONLY RECOMMEND, AMAZING FOOD
AND SERVICE).
Other than that, the beach itself and the sea at that part
of the coast is not the greatest as its fairly small and
not a pretty as other beaches. (I do recommend Kai Bae beach
its the most STUNNING location with the great Cliff Beach
Restaurant)

FOOD/DRINKS - Even though the hotel offers great value
prices for low cost rooms to stay, the food and drinks
are very overpriced considering the area and
competition they should consider. We never ate
in the hotel as there were many great places
just outside along the little main road where
you could eat twice as much for half the price.
(ABSOLUTELY recommend the small family run Thai place
right across the road from the hotel gates - its FABULOUS :)

I understand that the Mecure is a hotel chain
and therefore has to maintain their pricing
regulations, but the location and other offers
for guests available around the hotel should be considered
to stay competitive.

OVERALL - Overall the hotel is great, friendly, good atmoshpere
but a bit further off the action as a few other.
However, cabs are so cheap it did not bother us, as everything
is still in reach and we liked being away from the main centres.
I also recommend the ANTI STRESS massage at the in house spa.
Gave aus a perfect end to a perfect holiday :)

Room Tip: If you want to save money the low cost room is perfectly fine, not as fancy as other maybe, but tota...

I've read many hotel reviews in which the author has made a bombastic comment about the property, along the lines of, "it ruined my holiday". I usually frowned - until it happened to me.

My girlfriend and I have visited Thailand about 20 times and have always been touched by the warmth of the hospitality. Unfortunately everything that goes towards giving Thailand its "Land of Smiles" moniker is absent here.

We were so looking forward to my trip, but the mismanagement of this hotel ruined our stay. Here's why:

MOOD
There is a pervading atmosphere of negativity around the place. Staff seldom smile. Even before you reach check-in you are greeted with a sign (see below) forbidding bringing outside food and drink to the pool area for, among other things, "quality" reasons. Hmmm, so a bottle of water bought outside the resort may pose a "quality" concern?!

The feeling of doom and gloom sweeps throughout the hotel, with its many rules.

SERVICE
An extension to point #1 perhaps: the staff taking room service orders have such bad phone manners that they appear to be downright angered by having to take your order. Perhaps there are some English language issues, but almost every time we ordered they reacted like it was a nuisance to them. Conversely, the actual deliveries of the food was courteous.

BED
When paying upwards of 4,000 baht you're surely within your rights to expect a bed, but no, all you get here is a mattress on the floor. And the step up to the bed is downright hazardous: my girlfriend hurt her foot on our first night as she climbed down to go to the bathroom. It's just really shoddy for a hotel that is supposed to be a little bit more comfortable than the 1,500/night huts on Lonely Beach.

DOGS
Stray dogs wander around the resort and staff seemingly make no effort to eradicate this problem. They accept that it's a problem and there are notices in the room warning guests not to feed the dogs (see photo)

The one positive to this hotel is the quality of the food, which at times was excellent. However, eating on-property would mean spending more time than is absolutely necessary here.

My advice to anyone looking for an upmarket hotel on the island is to ignore the Accor name here - the hotel is an embarrassment to the brand - and instead stay at either the Amari or The Chill, both of which put this place to shame. Oh, and they have beds too.

On a quiet private beach with big pool. Good for families. Good service. Good size bedroom & bathroom. Beachfront room is also worth it.

For transportation, if you fly into Trat, you can take a van from airport directly to the hotel (van will take you to the port, go on the ferry, and drive you to hotel). Return ticket costs 900 THB/person. To get around the island, you can hire taxi (mini van, 50 THB/ride) or rent a motorcycle (200-300 THB/day).

Recommended.
