“A good relaxing hideaway resort on Koh Chang”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

On a quiet private beach with big pool. Good for families. Good service. Good size bedroom & bathroom. Beachfront room is also worth it.

For transportation, if you fly into Trat, you can take a van from airport directly to the hotel (van will take you to the port, go on the ferry, and drive you to hotel). Return ticket costs 900 THB/person. To get around the island, you can hire taxi (mini van, 50 THB/ride) or rent a motorcycle (200-300 THB/day).

Recommended.

Good hotel, nice staff, very beautiful ocean view and sunset view from the room, good food, very quiet - perfect for relaxing, no loud music at the pool, mixed guests, good drinks. Few minutes to Kai Bae and Lonely Beach by motor bike but not too far away from some nice bars. Very good Spa/Massage Service. Breakfast was a little bit weak, but still OK.

Room Tip: Book ocean view rooms or ocean side villa. You will love it!

My second visit and second report for the Mercure Hideway. I visited the Mercure shortly after it opened. The hotel resort is still very nice but it appears that they have problems in several areas with water pipes. During our stay (5 nights), there several problems that affected the overall quality of the stay.

Before I start listing the issues, I want to say that there is no need for the Management to answer the usual "Thank you very much for your comments and your feedback already share with our team especially Food & Beverage and Kitchen team. All of us will be working hard on this regard to improve the quality of our service". The below problems have been highlighted several times (just look at previous pages) but nothing has been effectively done besides the courteous answers on Trip Advisor.

Let's star with the positive aspects:
* Very nice and peaceful resort, good for rest and families
* Rooms are very comfortable.
* Polite staffs
* Efficient check in and out
* Internet working well

On the negative side:
* Price for special "Songkran" (Thai New year) buffet completely out of range. Nothing special (except for newbies) like barbecue or seafood. You just killed the business. We did once, but for sure not twice. The Management indicates on a board that it is forbidden to bring food from outside around the swimming pool and beach areas. Well, you miss the point here. People go outside buy food because your pricing is totally NOT appropriate. So instead of squeezing your customers, make your offer more attractive (quality and/or price) so your guests will not have to go outside to have lunch, dinner or bring food from outside.
* Breakfast way too expensive. Nowadays, no more reduction for Accor members (without any notification). The advantages for Accor members are shrinking year after year, but not the membership price. Member for 6+ years I will definitely reconsider this in 2014.
* Hot/Cold water mixer in bathroom does not work. This was mentioned several times here and obviously nothing has been done.
* Very late room cleaning. Twice room was cleaned after 4pm. We understand that it is a very busy Thai New year period, but that's not customers' concern. The Management should adjust staff accordingly. After all, that's all why the hotel increases its prices during this period.
* The swimming pool is nice (only 120cm deep) and clean but they use a strong product that makes your eyes itchy when underwater.

Overall, I found the hotel Management missing the point in several key areas. That's the shame because the overall service level does not match the beautiful resort environment.
As a result, we did not eat at the resort most of days. Much better deals can be found outside and the few places where you can eat outside nearby the resort are full. Of course the hotel might not be able to match small street vendors prices. That's not what is expected. But if it happens, it is clearly because customers have the bitter feeling to be taken for a ride.
I usually spend a lot of money at the hotel for food and drinks.

The overall rating is still average but of the nice location and design. Decreased from my first review clearly because of service level issues.

Room Tip: Avoid first floor rooms because of mosquitoes. Make sure your room has a working cold/hot water mixe...

A really nice, clean, everything-you-need resort that is all in all really good. We all really enjoyed our stay (7 friends) but have a few small complaints. Service charges is comitted for everything, even if you just wanna buy an icecream on the go. The breakfast buffé is overpriced but waiting for food from the breakfast menu takes a good 30 minutes! There's a really nice restaurant at the Beach just beside (Lisca Beach) which is amazing go there for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner!

Besides that we all enjoyed our stay alot! However consider paying a little more for a room at the pool area, the standard rooms had a small patio against a cement wall. And Bai Lan Beach is a tiny beach just of from most of things. Go here for a hideaway or for taking daytrips.

This is the first and last mercure hotel I have stayed on.
The staff attitude is unacceptable, no willingness to serve customers. If you want something go find it your self.

Having orders food for breakfast and waited a considerable time for one persons meal I asked politely for the third time is the food coming I was abruptly to to wait.
Opps I'm sorry did I interrupt something more important.
