“Great resort, great sea view, great food, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

The best resort I and my family ever stayed. Nice sea view and location. Nice breakfast. Nice restaurant and food. Nice service and hospitality. Nice swimming pool. Nice garden and architectural design. I love their tropical & contemporary style.

This is the dedicated resort at Koh Chang in the future.

We stayed here for a week in June 2014 and loved it! Despite being rainy season and Koh Chang getting a lot more rain than BKK or Samed, we really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a bungalow just above the beach (wish I could remember the number as I'd request the same room if returning!) and near funicular stop 2 and it was great! Big balcony (although some chair cushions would have been more comfortable) with a huge tree in front that had monkeys climbing all over it at night and in the mornings!! This was a definite plus for us! Bats and geckos aplenty and a real feel of being in the jungle even though only 20-30 metres above the beach. The room was comfortable with high ceiling and nice bath and shower room. The towel arrangements were so sweet - elephant, flower, snake etc sculptures with actual flowers which really made us feel well looked after! The beach restaurant is pricier than most places on the island but still cheap compared to most countries and really good food. The barracuda was great as was smoked salmon salad - very nicely presented and tasted excellent too. Because it was low season, the place was very quiet and so we had very attentive service from all staff - maybe even a little too attentive, but can't really fault staff for doing their job well! The breakfast buffet had a wide choice and was at the top of the resort - loved getting the funicular up to stop 4. The main thing I loved about this place was the bottom pool, the quiet and beautiful beach (decent size with plenty of space) and our room. Would definitely recommend and definitely come back! Only downside was the weather (our fault for not checking beforehand and assuming Koh Chang would be the same as BKK) and the fact that the resort is a bit of a trek to any main road. This means you need to get taxis to the Kai Bae main road (although there are hotel shuttles a couple of times a day too). I did feel a bit resort-bound, but luckily it was a gorgeous place to be (kind of) stuck at! The wildlife - particularly the monkeys - we're a huge treat and made the holiday extra special.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights in early July. We were lucky enough to find a good deal online with a free upgrade to the superior deluxe rooms which are absolutely stunning. These rooms have awesome views out over the sea and perfect for watching the sunset. The rooms also have huge showers and a separate bath with a sliding door which allows you to look out into the room and out to the balcony.

The room was cleaned everyday and the maid cleaned everything, even folded any of our clothes which were left out and left water bottles even when we hadn't used the ones from the previous day.

The breakfast buffet was great with an amazing selection to choose from and the staff throughout the hotel were magnificent, they regularly came to the table to clear any dishes and ask if we needed more coffee.

We only ate at the restaurant once during our stay here as the prices are pretty high in comparison to the rest of the island, but still very reasonable compared to the UK (we paid less than you would for a Nandos). The food was stunning though and again the staff were very attentive and we had no problem in leaving a good tip as we were so impressed with it!

As many others have mentioned, the hotel is huge and pretty much built into a cliff face which both adds to its charm but also makes it very difficult to walk around (especially in the July humidity) even for us and we're pretty physically active. The cable car is a necessary and nice way to get from the top of the resort to the bottom but it was under maintenance twice (not for long) during our stay, and I can imagine having to wait for a long time for it during the high season as its pretty slow. That being said the very helpful and friendly ladies at reception told us to call down whenever we needed to get there and they would send the bell boy up to get us in the golf buggy.

We spent most of our time at the top pool as it was closer to our room and quieter most of the time but we did visit the beach and the bottom pool a few times. We were also told by one of the staff that the water was too low to take a kayak out but we could walk over to the neighbouring island, he didn't however warn us about how treacherous the rocks were as you approach the island and despite having our sandals we threw in the towel with about 50m to go as the girlfriend took a couple of nasty falls and had a couple of cuts.

The only other negative was that the hotel is quite isolated, ok for us as we were happy to rent a scooter as we enjoyed exploring the island, but perhaps a little trickier for families or people who aren't wanting to rent a scooter. There is a shuttle bus into the nearest town (but not back) run by the hotel which we didn't take advantage of because the last one was at 6pm. Not sure if these would run more frequently in the high season.

All in all it was a wonderful stay at what was, for us, a pretty fancy hotel and we loved every second for it and I'm sure we'll struggle to stay at a hotel of similar standard for a similar price.

Room Tip: Didn't see any other rooms but the superior rooms were out of this world!

3 adults and 5 little children. Grounds are steep and slippery everywhere. Kids fell & got injured many times. Booked 3 but stayed only 2 nights. Thai staff are helpless and unfriendly. Won't go back.
