We thought we had a fair price during the offseason, wasn't very busy, but on second morning we were informed the price was higher then we were promised on checkin, and we needed to pay extra for first night as well as future nights.

We left, since the discussion was not very courteous, found a much nicer place for half the price.

We thought restaurant food was so,so and way over priced for dinner.

Several of staff were smiling and courteous. Grounds were well maintained.

After being very disappointed with our original booking for a 10 day vacation on Koh Chang (see review for Bhumiyana) our travel agent booked us into the Tropicana on Khlong Phrao beach and our vacation was saved!!! From the initial contact with the front desk and General Manager we found them to be helpful, friendly, and willing to negotiate to ensure an excellent vacation.

We traveled with our two children (7 and 10) and comfortably shared a superior room that had two good sized beds and a couch/bench that could turn into a bed for one of the kids. The room was spacious, beds were comfortably firm, the decor was warm and clean, and the bathrooms were excellent. The only complaint on the rooms are; showers quickly turn very hot or cold on their own and you risk getting a bit of a burn, and superior rooms are attached to another bungalow and you are able to hear every sound (and i mean ---every!) from your neighbors. Because of this i would recommend you book a seperate Deluxe room to ensure a quiet stay. As we stayed at the hotel over Sonkran --- evenings were invaded late into the night by the constant throbbing of music and bad karoeke from distant bars but that is going to happen anywhere in Thailand these days. Once the holidays were over the evenings went back to being peaceful and quiet.

The grounds are wonderful ---- beautifully landscaped, peaceful, and well maintained. There are no buildings over two stories tall so it does not seem densely populated and everything blends in nicely to the landscape. There are flowering trees throughout the grounds along with nice ponds and other nice touches.

The infinity pool (though on the small side) is very clean, and located right on the edge of the beach. Perfect for the kids and for taking in gorgeous sunsets. It also has a small poolside bar offering a nice selection of drinks. There are comfortable lounge chairs along the pool side and on the beach with a sufficient number of umbrellas for shade. Only small issue is that the many staff circulating around the pool never come by to ask for a drink order or to assist with umbrellas.

On one side of the beach property is a very comfortable beach bar that offers a nice happy hour and plays some great tunes. It is an excellent place to relax before dinner to enjoy a great sunset. Drinks are very reasonably priced.

The breakfast selection is quite good with a decent variety of Thai and western foods. Fruit was usually quite fresh and they have a good selection of cheeses, breads, fresh cut veggies, and a few fellows making omlettes. Only downside to the breakfast selection is the awful coffee and tea. We usually found ourselves up on the main road in the late morning at the Upper Crust (owned by a really nice guy, Paul) that has a great selection of meats, pastries, wines, and coffees.

Dinners at the hotel restaurant are reasonably priced and include a good selection of foods. They also have number of fresh seafood selections that can be grilled to order (great tiger prawns!). The restaurant is right on the edge of the beach and offers a great view and provides such ambiance to the place. Staff at the restaurant were not particularly dynamic but very friendly and accomodating.

Our nine nights at the Tropicana were fantastic! We live in Thailand and have been to many hotels and this one stands out as one of our favorites. I can highly recommend this hotel for families and couples. You will not be disappointed.

Koh Chang Tropicana resort offered a nice holiday for our family with two kids. Although the resort was fully booked between Christmas and New Year it felt peaceful. The restaurant located just at the beach is beautiful and they have a good cook. Dinner buffet in New Year's Eve was exellent and and set very beautiful. We can warmly recommend this resort among the rest of the resorts in Koh Chang!

We were looking at staying in Koh Chang having never been there before and booked up 7 nights in Bangkok. Going in October means you can have a special rate of 5 nights with two nights free including breakfast so we felt we'd got a very good price. I wasn't sure what to expect having read the reviews but we were really pleased with the resort. When we arrived we were shown to rooms away from the beach and near to the reception. We weren't happy with those so fortunately were able to upgrade to a semi detached bungalow right by the beach and the pool. The room was lovely. Lots of trees and shrubs so you felt private and a large amount of space with massive bed and lounge area, plus mini bar and HUGE shower and toilet. Plus the cold water shower at the back so you could just have a quick plunge between swims. You can hire a kayak by the hour or for the day for about £5. The restaurant isn't the best, but breakfast was great. Lots of lovely places to eat nearby and Panviman Resort down the beach about 10 minutes walk was absolutely amazing quality food and drinks with very cheap prices. Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the place was spotlessly clean and we had a wonderful time. Amazing location in a very quiet area, considering the current amount of development on Koh Chang. If you go, please, please walk up to the road and pay Nids Kitchen a visit nearby the elephant trekking place. It does the best barracuda ever and Bob and Nid are incredible hosts! Oh, and try and make time to go on the elephant trek next door. We asked for the elephant to come into the pool with us and ended up swimming with him. What an experience.

We were scheduled to stay at Tropicana from December 24th, 2006 to December 31st, 2006. After travelling for 2 weeks (packing and repacking every other day), we just wanted to just chill and relax in Ko Chang.

Thus, we were outraged when we found out we had to go to another hotel on the 24th (the one night) because Tropicana was over booked. This is a common occurence at Tropicana especially around Christmas and New Years!

We stressed our disappointment vehemently. For our inconvience, they offered us a complimentary dinner the following night. Well the dinner (Christmas Day) took two hours for it to come. I was already in bed with my younger son by then--what a real let down.

The room was pleasing when we got there. Nice tropical facility!

The food next door at the Blue Lagoon was our favourite hang out!

Ko Chang is a beautiful island. I suspect that in 5 years it will be the next Phuket or Ko Samui. Thus, go now!

The highlight of our trip was renting a boat and going island hopping for the day. Bang Bao on Ko Chang, the fishing village is quaint and interersting-- You can rent boats in Bang Bao.

For families with young families (like us), it is probably better to stay at Paradise Resort in Ko Chang-----the playgound and the most amazing swings on the beach are what our kids missed terribly at Paradise!
