“Great view, best pool, shame about the rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2010

Stayed in cliff view deluxe room, most amazing view of the sea, however the rooms are a bit shabby and dont warrant the high prices.
The breakfast is okay and food in the restaurant good. The beach is rocky and not private.
However the POOL is the most amazing infinity pool ever...it made up for the poor condition of the rooms.
Air Con! In our room they had an in-room air conditioner, which froze over during the night and stopped working...really annoying.
be prepared for some uphill walking too as you have to work to get to the views and not the warmest reception.
All considered it is a great little resort, but the rooms could use some improvement to justify the price.

If you were taking a shower and the back drop out of your bathroom window was the rain forest how amazing would this be! Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort was fantastic! We stayed in the Cliffside Superior Villas which were obviously the newer builds of the resort, the ones nearer the beach looked a little bit tired and dilapitated. However I would recommend this resort to anyone. The infinity pool was fabulous and many a photograph was spent here! Beautiful!
The service, bars and restaurant had a 10pm shut down which initially we thought was bad service, however the town was so near with many bars and restaurants that this did not become a problem. The location was ideal and although there was an obvious difference between the type of accomodation here you know that in the end this resort will perfect it. Prices will increase and it will lose its charm. Go here while you get the chance!

We stayed at Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort in November 2007 after travelling throught Cambodia and Vietnam and staying at some very average hotels. This was an excellent way to end our time in Thailand. The hotel itself is very nice and well maintained and then staff go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable.

The private beach is perfect for relaxing and there were always plenty of chairs available for guests. The water is beautiful for swimming and there are many things to keep you busy if you would like to be a bit more active - boat and kayak rentals, snorkelling gear, etc. As well, the spa overlooking the water is a great way to unwind and enjoy a traditional Thai massage.

The restaurant at the hotel is great for breakfast each morning and also has pretty good food if you stay here to eat for dinner. However, the location of the hotel is perfect, as there are many restaurants, bars and shops within a short walking distance so you can eat somewhere different every night if you wish.

Overall, I would rate the Cliff Beach Resort as a perfect place to stay if you are looking for a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere. The rooms are very clean and fairly modern, with plenty of space. We stayed in the poolside, sea view room and it was great with a huge king size bed.

When you step into the resort, it's like a calm oasis...however when you step out..you can enjoy the conveniences of nearby restaurants, ATMs, shops. It's not as posh as some other resorts, however it's a great location. Overall, I'd highly recommend Ko Chang Cliff Resort due to it's relaxing atmosphere that blends in well with natural surroundings and close proximity to nearby restaurants and shops. Very convenient!

Ko Chang Cliff Resort offers a variety of accomodations to suit different tastes and budgets:

1) Garden View
2) Pool View (new)
3) Cliff View (older, view of ocean)
4) Thai House (new, patio view of ocean)

We arrived in the middle night and stayed at the Cliff View Room. The room was very tired looking, so in the morning -- we switched to a Thai House and stayed there for the rest of our stay. The Thai House is double the price, but ten times better!

We had the opportunity to select which house we wanted to stay in. We ended up in House 813 - a bi-level house with living room, bedroom, and patio with a sweeping view of the sea. Large marble bath with shower, separate tub, with a mini garden that brought in natural light. It was great to relax here everyday and watch the sunset privately after an exhausting & hot day in the sun!

House number 811 is not bad either - however it's smaller w/o living room and you can not see the sea from your bedroom- but offers the best unobstructed private patio view of the ocean.

There is also a parking lot next to the Thai Houses so this makes it very convenient to come and go if you've rented your own 4X4. There is also an infinity pool steps away with a striking view of the sea and has great sunset views. This pool is open to everyone, however few people seemed aware of it. The resort also has another pool that is located in the main area of the resort.

They also offer beachside massage services, snorkel equipment rentals, and private boat rental services to the nearby islands. The two restaurants on site are average. Because you are 5 minutes walking distance away from town, I'd recommend eating at one of the local restaurants.

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days on our honeymoon. It was the second time I stayed here and it was fantastic (again). We stayed in the cliff view appartement. Great view, beautiful terrace, very quiet. Just perfect. The new pool is located in the "jungle" and had max. 6 visitors per day, wich was great for us!! Remember to get up at 7 in the morning if you want to have a seat on the beach, because people throw there towels on every chair, just to make sure they will have a spot. Very annoying! But the pool upstairs is great and a perfect alternative. Staff at reception is very helpful. Kai Bae Beach offers many restaurants with great bbq. The restaurant at the hotel was a bit pricy. Good breakfast. Would love to come for a whole month the next time :)

  • Liked — Great view, lovely appartment, fantastic jungle pool
  • Disliked — Maybe some sport facilities (volleybal, ping pong, etc) would be nice

We went to Koh Chang to get off the beaten track and could only afford it in the off season. We were after the old-style Thailand of teak houses and mosquito nets, azure seas and tropical breezes. If you do not want a swimming pool crammed full of loud Belgians, then stay at this hotel, and take one of the extremely private cliff top houses. The view is sea and islands and jungle (much better than just pure sea) a balcony for lounging, a cavernous bath with sea views and a podium bed - it is the romantic view completely satisfied for one who adores the olden days of Jim Thompson's Thailand.

The sheets, decor and even the bath fittings are of an unexpectedly high calibre. The food is however, sub par, compared to the excellent buffet breakfast one expects at four star hotels in Bangkok. In our particular off-season, we were two of six guests with a staff of forty. Our little house even had a gate.

The wet season means an hour of dramatic rain in the afternoon, and that the water isn't quite as clear. If you want the space and time for a real chat with locals, then an off-season adventure is far cheaper and far more of a holiday than one crammed with the hubbub of the European crowds.

A giant hammock on the beach, sailing and paddling equipment for hire and a covered massage hut built on rocks overlooking the sea for the most relaxing rolling surf Thai massage you could ever want are waiting for you when you trek down from your own little house on the cliffside. Magic for those with an old school streak, who prefer their houses teak and their books to their internet.

  • Liked — Old world charm
  • Disliked — The food
  • Tips/Secrets — Cliff top house is the best room on the island - don't get the normal rooms
