“Right on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I agree that you have to ask for the menu and the bill yourself and that the music is just too loud sometimes, but it's a very nice place overall. Its right on the beach, there is a good restaurant which is cheaper than the restaurants in town, its a great place to relax, there's a bar and there are bungalows for different prices and conditions. Its close to town and the people are very friendly if you get to know them.

Staff here are probably the rudest and ignorant I have ever encountered anywhere in the world.

Accommodation is very poor, dirty (there is a sign saying you have to give your key back every 3 days for cleaning!?!?), uncomfortable, no flushing loo, no towels (you can get them from reception at Thb100 deposit each, and they are disgusting).

It is just an awful place, made even worse but the sullen and bellicose staff.

Sadly it is situated on a gorgeous beach, but not worth the money.

I just returned from a trip to Lonely Beach and it was just what I was looking for - relaxed, beautiful, not overcrowded, nightlife if you want it. I treated myself to two nights at the end of my stay at Nature Beach in one of the newer air conditioned rooms - as I had spent most of my trip hanging out on the deck of the restaurant sunbathing. The room was perfect and clean and it was great to have a comfortable bed for a couple of nights. The accomodation, the location and the food were all great but the stumbling point was in the customer care. The lady on reception is abrupt and dismissive as opposed to welcoming and friendly, the waiting staff in the restaurant behave as thought the customers are a massive inconvenience to their busy day of sitting around doing nothing, Getting served requires shouting out to them as waiting patiently and politely is an exercise in futility - you'll be there all day.

This again I could handle but what put a damper on my stay was the unwanted attention I, as a single female traveller, had to endure from the barman. Im not sure if I just seemed an easy touch as I was alone or if he assumed a single western girl was going to be on the prowl for some sort of holiday trist but he made me feel increasingly uneasy. What started out as stopping by my table and chatting in a friendly manner soon progressed almost instantly to trying to put his hand on my leg and hold my hand, putting his feet up on my lap and asking increasingly personal questions. Every time I went to the restaurant to eat or to the couch area to send some emails he would bombard me with invitations to go swimming or for moonlight walks on the beach and then heavy hints about coming to my bedroom to watch whatever I was downloading. I declined all these offers and my body language made it clear I was distinctly uncomfortable. It was inappropriate and certainly not encouraged and made me distinctly uncomfortable to the point that I had to retreat to my room early each evening to get away from it. I can certainly handle myself and was forced to stop being polite and start being extremely cold and blunt but as someone who worked in hospitality and in hotels specifically for a number of years I think the owners need to be aware that this sort of behaviour can make female guests feel extremely uncomfortable.

I have stayed in many hotels / bungalows in Koh Chang, but Nature Beach must be one of the worse. Apart the Lonely beach that is of course very beautiful, the hotel itself is split in 3 parts. The huts located south, the old bungalows and the new bungalows. The prices are ranging from 300 bath for the huts without aircon to 2500+ for the newest Bungalows. Most of the staff is Cambodian, there are no Thais apart from the manager / owner, a lady that spends her time shouting to the poor staff that are working 12h / day and are living in the back of the resort in horrible conditions. The stay was terrible mainly because of the noise and the parties. Having sub bass until 2am on one of the most beautiful beach in Thailand is quite upsetting. Police should do something to avoid these so called parties where only a dozen of people attend but that polluting the place for nothing. I would not stay there again for sure, there are so many good and well maintained bungalows resort on Koh Chang it is no worth spending your time in this one.

Room Tip: Choose the most expensive ones, but they are close to the restaurant so enjoy the noise too...

We rented a bungalow in the back with a fan and only cold water for 400 bath, the first impression was that the room was clean. The bungalow was at the back so you are not disturbed by the music in the evenings. The beach is really nice and there are good places in the restaurant to relax on the day, but.. The service at the restaurant is beneath contempt, it takes a realy long time to get the food and they do not seem to care about their customers at all. If you can live with the poor service and treatment we recommend the hotell, simply because of its great location. Despite all the good we have to say we left the hotel due to a cockroach invasion, not just one or two and they ran around in the bed...but it may well be that we just had some bad luck. The hotell organizez a beach party every Sunday with a fire show. You just have to go out to the road if you want to get a taxi and they drive past regulary. If you just want to go to the nearest town it only a 5-10 minet walk. There is a small shop with the essentials you might need a few minutes away from the hotell.

We where there in November 2009, for few nights with our friends. We moved there from Porn Bungalows because of the lack of beach in the morning (surge). The wooden bungalows for about 500 THB with no hot water and no AC was great. The ocean breeze was more than enough for us and no hot water wasn't a problem. The restaurant at the place was really good. Thai standard of course. You order eggs with toasts and you get the eggs and 20 minutes later the toast :) I really enjoyed my stay there back there.

This year I was on Koh Chang for more than 10 days, so I rented a motorbike to drive there - see what's changed. And I was really impressed. They added many more bungalows made from concrete, with AC and hot water. The place still doesn't have a Pool, but the beach is at it was back then really nice.
The Lonely Beach itself is really nice and not overcrowded, not only for backpackers. If you have a bit more money you should stay at Gajapuri or something on Kai Bae (more quiet), but Lonely Beach is full of young and friendly people.

Room Tip: Take the fron line on the right.

Went for a late lunch with friends after hot day on the beach. Sat down. Nobody bother to get menu. Staff just walked around with miserable faces. Finally got the menu, ordered food. Was ok, didn't wait long too. Girl siting next to us got a hard time. She is vegetarian, so ordered soup saying no fish or meat. Got soup which tasted very fishy. When she asked waiter to change it - he said she will still get bill for this soup too. Girl couldn't understand why u need to pay for something u can't even eat. Anyway when manager came he did explain if she's not gonna pay, he will ask waiter to pay for it. Nonsense in all aspects. She did pay knowing waiters salary is small.
I wouldn't go back there. Maybe next time they mess up my order and I will get something I don't even want and charged for it too. And it's not the cheapest place too.

Room Tip: Checked on rooms too. Look good, nice location. Didn't stay there in the end because of bad serv...
