“A peaceful treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

Okay, the first thing you need to know is that the resort is not your typical resort style setting. It is half on a jetty and the other half is an apartment overlooking the water. So don't expect a beach unless you want to kayak there, which is possible and fun and Deiter will even lend you a kayak for free.
The rooms are clean. The service is friendly and the food is amazing.
The resort is in a tiny village, so expect some power issues, but hey your miles away from the rush and the quiet is exactly why you come to these tiny out of the places.
This place is great value and a perfect place to re-charge.
PS: I wouldn't have been happy if someone showed up with 2 dogs to live on a tropical jetty with me.

I originally booked this place as having looked through pet friendly places it was hard to find too many on Kho Chang. I e-mailed prior to my stay and explained I was taking my two dogs with me (both very well trained and non aggressive. Upon eventually finding this place I walked through a litter strewn drive for about 300 metres although seemed a lot more and not a good path especially if you are older or have heavy luggage. Upon meeting Dieter from the offset he was extremely rude and impolite as if he does not want customers! He said he had not received e-mail about the dogs and was not too happy bearing in mind I had booked his top room and paid for three nights. Upon asking for food which was also a waste of time as the cook was not there but he could ring her and bring her in if needed. The room was at the top of a very steep hill and no lighting at nightime as he trys to save electricity and turns everything off including air con supply. All in all I would not recommend this place to anyone far better places on the island and definitely not worth the money. Good thing we checked out after one night and found a better place having lost two nights money.

Room Tip: Choose one on the pier.

1. We can not accept dogs in the resort over the water as space is limited and dogs can not find a toilet but have to make their belongings in the hotel or restaurant area.
2. It is not true that the guest asked for permission to bring two dogs along. If he would have asked we would not agree.
3. The guest started to ague on this matter, so we offered him a room in our beautiful apartments on the hill, where dogs have a lot of space and do not disturb other guests.
4. Our cook is available all times as her apartment is close to the restaurant. Of course, during the time from 3 PM to 6 Pm the restaurant is closed and she stays at her apartment, but if a guest requests service during this time we can call her which never takes more than 5 minutes.
5. During the night we have a reduced number of lights on the hill, but the guest can switch it on themselves. We think everybody should be concerned about energysaving!!
6. It is definetly not true that the Aircondition did not work.
It looks like the guest was frustated that we could not give him a room over the water. In respect for other guests we will not change our policy and accept dogs in the resort over the water.

We ate at the restaurant and chose the dish of the day, fish.
It was the best meal we had during our month away and worth the effort to get there.
It's at the southern end of the east side opposite lonely beach (see map). When you arrive you have to continue on foot or moped along a narrow path until you reach the pier.
The views are fabulous and it's very laid back. Great value and friendly welcome. Also very good value for money and the German host taught us that Leo is better than Singha, we now agree!
They also had a special beer, can't remember the name but ask for it, wonderful.

You're gonna like this resort when you want to stay away from the crowded western side of the island (White Sand Beach e.g.). It is located in the South, right where the coast street ends - due to the mountains they never finished it, so there's no way of driving around the island, meaning no traffic at all down there. However, this also means you'll have to drive quite a bit (you can rent a scooter at the resort) if you want to visit the beaches on "the other side" (roughly 1h/ 1h15 to Lonely Beach).
The atmosphere of the resort is a little camping-like (so nothing really luxurious), but we were ok with that. There are rooms on small cabins in the woods and some out on the water, which is really nice. There is no beach, but one in a 1/2h walking distance (which we didn't visit).
Food and breakfast are good, we did go to nearby Salakphet for dinner every night, tho. Jab Jab Seafood opened just a month ago and is simply amazing! Had the best fish of my life there!

Dieter, the resort manager, is some kind of a difficult character (as you can also read in most of the other reviews and the reason why I originally wanted to give just three points). It is quite easy to get into an argument with him, even though he says he is not going to argue with guests (like he won't like it when you ask for the scooters to go have dinner somewhere else). The customer is always right - he should maybe remember that every now and then. If you "stay away from him" and simply do your thing, it's ok, tho.

We liked out stay at Island View Resort, nevertheless, we will go find a resort at Lonely Beach next time, it's simply more "our thing" ...

The location is fantastic if you want to stay literally ON the water, and as long as you don't mind being on the quiet side of the island (which requires you to travel by motorbike, kayak or on foot 1-2 hours to get to a sandy beach). Beautiful, restful location, good restaurant (also try Salakphet Seafood and Resort a few doors down), and lots of activities the staff (Jimmy) can arrange for you. Jimmy is awesome. He's super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in all ways.

Our stay could have been spectacular given all I described above, but instead it was only overall pretty good. I was disappointed. My partner had gotten sick the day before we were supposed to arrive at the resort so we were running a day behind schedule. We contacted the owner through Agoda to let him know (unfortunately it's not easy to communicate through Agoda) and we didn't have the owner's direct email address. When we arrived a day late he told us he had cancelled our reservation, and although we had already paid in full, he had given our "Comfort" (more expensive, better view) room away and tried to put us in a standard room. When we said we preferred to be in one of the obviously open rooms with the view in the "Comfort Room" pictures we had paid for, he lost his temper and started yelling at us. I understand that there can sometimes be a misunderstanding or a miscommunication (he said Agoda never contacted him to inform him of our notice we would be a day late), but hotel guests shouldn't be yelled at by hotel owners - that's basic Hospitality 101. The situation was finally resolved and the owner let us move into one of the open premium rooms, but only after we fought for it. I have to say that I think if one of us had been a man (we are both women) we probably would have been treated differently when there was obviously a miscommunication.

Bottom line: it's a great location, and if you're willing to put up with a grumpy old man telling you what will make you comfortable, and if you're pretty low-key and don't care which room you're put in, it's a must-stay.

We had a great three night stay at Island View Resort. We did get instructions by email on how to get there from Dieter, which we followed with no problems, and arrived without a hitch. Dieter and Jimmy were very welcoming and we were shown to our rooms on the jetty. We had only booked our rooms directly through the website a week before and hoped to be able to stay on the jetty, so we were really happy. The rooms were very neat and clean and through the double glass sliding doors, the scenery was stunning.
Dieter arranged a five island tour in a little boat just for us (2 adults, 2 teenagers). This was the real highlight for me. It was amazing. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The water was glassy, warm and calm. We swam and snorkelled all day. Just the best! We saw other boat trips doing the same but they were huge fishing type boats with 20 or so passengers on them. We got the better deal by far! I'm sure Dieter has made sure that whatever he has to offer in the way of activities, they are the best around.
For three days we swam from the floating pontoon, slept, ate, relaxed, ate some more.....watched the sun rise. It is a beautiful place.
We found Dieter and Jimmy and their wives to be amazing hosts. With reviewing Island View, I really believe that if you treat people how you would like to be treated, then you are not often disappointed. We had many chats with Jimmy, and when we left, felt like we were saying goodbye to a good friend. I would certainly recommend staying here, and I hope to be able to return on our next trip to Thailand.

First of all. Do pay attention to the e-mail you get in front of your stay. I did not and it cost me a lot to get there. Because the place is in the end of the road on the east side of the island.
But it is a wonderful and peaceful place to stay with some stunning sunrises. We had a room on the pier, which I recommend. It is so wonderful to go to bed and sleep with the sound of the lazy waves.
The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable vs. the high standard of the food. The sail dingy and cat was not operative when we was there, which was the only major negative issue of our stay. But thanks to Dieter, we had a awesome day of sightseeing with a local fisherman in his clean small boat around several smaller islands. This is a trip I can recommend.
I can really recommend this place if you want peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Ask for the room at the end of the pier. You get an extra window and a cool airflow at nights withou...
