“The Chill saved our stay in Koh Chang”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights at the Chill in May this year, after moving our from our previous hotel which was a catastrophy. First of all, we liked the modern architecture and the way the hotel was build. Modern, very simple lines. The architects managed to take the best out of the grounds and the perspective from the lobby to the beach with the three infinity pools in a row is impressive.
We had a normal room on the second floor and it was very spacious and had all amenities (tea, coffee, umbrellas flip-flops, bags...) It is modernly furnished cosy and comfortable as well. There is a balcony with a sunbed on it.
We really enjoyed the pool, and as the hotel was only half full, there was always lots of space around the pool.
The hotel is directly on the beach, but there are quite a lot of rocks in front of the hotel. However, we walked to the end of the beach and we could take a swim there.
We had two great massages at the spa and we found that there were the best massages we had in Thailand. As a hotel spa, it is more expensive, but still very affordable.
The Chill serves a "a la carte" breakfast which was always very fresh and very diverse. The staff is very polite and do their best all the time.
All, in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the Chill and they really saved our stay in Koh Chang. It was quite and the hotel was well designed and the pools, view, spa and library are perfect. However, it is not a palace, and the service can be different from day to day, but overall it was very efficient.

Room Tip: We had the superior room, and we found it really good. The villa are the grandest rooms, if you chos...

This hotel is very well decorated and designed. I also love the pictures in the room. They are very abstract and fit well with the room. The food at the restaurant is great and not expensive at all. They provide real relaxation such as Thai massage, pool and library. The pool at The Chill is the best. It has such a superb horizontal view. The bed is very comfortable. Their shampoo and liquid soap smell really nice and skin care as well comparing to those of other hotels. The staff are friendly and approachable. I LIKE THIS HOTEL!!

Room Tip: Splash. Pool Villa.

We stayed 3 months at the Chill! Yes,3 months and we are very sad to leave this paradise!
We had a beautiful room on the third floor with big living room and bedroom which had the best bed we ever slept on! So cozy, soft mattress and 3 feather pillows for every one of us. The bed was situated in the middle of the room with great tropical view on Koh Chang's wonderful montains and palm tress.Wow! There was avery nice sofa on the terrace, perfect if you want to take a quick nap or just listen to the birds in the morning. The bathroom is very nice as well; 2 sinks and even a dressing room, great!
The hotel pool is large and well maintained. The beach is small but very private, the beach boy was serving complimentary cool water all day long and we even got a plate of fresh fruit every afternoon
The spa treatments were absolutely amazing with very qualified therapists, much better than the Spas outside the hotel!
The restaurant was the best! Breakfast is available all day so that you don't need to rush in the morning and worry about missing it. Only the Chill can offer such a great service! Huge variety of Thai & European Food and surprising choice of cheeses, cold cuts, pastry etc...which is rather unusual in Thailand. Almost every night we also had dinner at their restaurant as every evening was unique; romantic atmosphere with tables in the sand, candle light and soothing background music. Professional and charming service staff, congratulations to this team who knows how to satisfy luxury travelers. And the best are the small details like warm bread rolls served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, exceptionally high end for this island and all this reasonable price!
We highly recommend the Chill Resort to all who love to relax while watching beautiful sunsets, who love fine dining (oh we forgot to mention the great selection of wine and champagne!) and for all those who don't like to be to isolated (The Chill is situated in a very convenient and lively area; shops, restaurants and coffee shops are close by).
We made our choice for our future holidays; We will certainly never book elsewhere as at the Chill, simply the best!

Maybe it's just me but this place could not charm me.

Yes, the design is lovely and the pools (we had a splash room) are great but the place lacks atmosphere, and most of all a good general manager.

During our stay, way too many things went 'wrong'. The Chill's website presents a standard they can't or won't live up to. Somebody needs to organise this place and take control. It's not a five star. Not even a four star.

- eastern european neighbours chilling at the pools (next time we will also stay in the cheaper accomodation next door and use The Chill's pool, could have saved us some hundreds of dollars)
- empty plates and glasses at the poolside were never taken away, although always 4 or 5 waiters at the bar
- no drinks service at the pool, always 4 or 5 waiters at the bar (even if you'd get a menu the bar, they still expect you to come back and order. If you don't, the menu's next to your sunlounger all day)
- 2 cockroaches in the room (yes you find them in tropical countries but it's the first time I've encountered them in such a 'luxurious' accomodation)
- lunch at the chill? Be prepared to wait for ages.
- housekeeping: no structure. They even did the room the morning we had to check out, which was a complete surprise when we returned from breakfast because during our stay it was often late afternoon. The fridge was never refilled, we didn't get new instant coffee, only one roll of toiletpaper,.... Even though we are used to tipping, I started to wonder if we did something wrong.... :)
- staff not very friendly ( maybe because the eastern european folks aren't too friendly to the staf...), no motivation

Could go on for hours.
All these little things add up.
Overall disappointed.
Will not return.
No value for money.

We loved this hotel, we stayed for 4 nights and during the day we pretty much had this giant pool to ourselves as I guess everyone was off doing tours.
They do breakfast here all day, which is a lovely touch as when you are on holiday you don't want to have to rush to get up to have breakfast.
The room we stayed in had an adjoining door with next door, this unfortunately meant that when our neighbours got up, we could easily hear them and this did wake us up a few times, which was a shame because everything else in the hotel was great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with no adjoining door to the next room, as you can easily hear noisey neighbours

Stayed at this wonderful Hotel for 6 nights in February 2013. Booked through Sawadee.com, this can be recommended strongly do to better prices.A week before we arrived, we contacted the Hotel to check if they had pick-up service from airport in Trat, something they had. We got picked up by a small bus at the airport, and drove to the ferry and over to chang and finally arriving at The Chill. Very good service :-)

Upon arrival, we got nice cold "towels" to wash our face and hands, and a drink. Room was not available until 1400hrs, but reception kept our luggage so we could stay at the pool. When we got the room, our luggage was already in the room :-) nice spacious room, very clean. Big balcony with bed. Bed in room was good as well, but pillows a little hard. We stayed on the second floor in a superior room. Hotel area, are very romantic and beatifu, with nice pools and a nice beach. Restaurant ok, but very expensive. Breakfast was included, and was extremely good, with a lot of different choises. There are plenty of restaurants in the streets in front of hotel, much better priced. Espesially the drinks like beer etc. Was very pricy. If you go left out the reception, you will find a Thai / Swedish restaurant about 200 meters on the right side of the road called Karma. Very good Thai food and cheap, and the best food we got in Chang, even though it's part Swedish :-)

We chose this area on Koh Chang since white sandy beach would be very crowdy and noisy, but this area was also very busy. But nice to have a good choises of restaurants, bars, massages, shops etc. There are 2 off 7/11 nearby, and a Tesco as well.
Took a taxi down to Bang Bao, and this place was much better for us. Less crowdy, really nice :-) recommended...

Positive:
Very nice surroundings
Exellent breakfast
Free water during the day around the pool and beach, and sometimes the waiters came with fruit as well :-)
Clean room, with a lot of stuff, like mosquito repellant, safe, creams etc.
Ice cubes delivered to the room around 1900hrs.
Bathrobes, slippers and beach bag
Minibar with Very OK prices.
Free WIFI at the complete Hotel area.
Turn down service at the evening
Some international channels on the TV
Free towels at the pool and beach, and could be changed during the day.
Free complementary Thai Massage for two in the spa :-) once per stay
Free complementary Thai dinner set for two in the Chill Out restaurant :-) once per stay

Negative:
No choice of pillows. Pillows we had was a little hard for us.
Expensive drinks in the restaurant
Took a while to actually get our ordered drinks, during daytime around the pool / beach
Same with food and drinks during dinner.
Waiters a little "stiff" and correct, but guess this is a part of a Hotel in this class.....not really negative
A small crack under the main door to the room, could see out. Not a big problem, but could be fixed...
Ants on the hammock at the beach. Should have been sprayed with repellant of some kind.....

All in all a very pleasant stay, and would recommend this beatiful Hotel to all. We would not go back to Koh Chang, since this island now is too busy for us. Koh Kood & Koh Mak next time, but will write about Kod later since our jurney continued to Kod after Chang :-)

in general: very airy architecture, looks a bit dated though if you look more closely... but then again I know what the seawater does to paint etc. in no time...
Pool: great. Huge, in front of the beach. Perfect.
Beach: tiny. nice sand though.
Food: breakfast was good, service attentive. Dinner/cocktails quite expensive.
room: we had a room on the first floor. What really bothered me, and that is the reason I probably wouldn't stay at this hotel again (which I doubt I ever will, because frankly, the island is quite charmless, tons of tourist traps, thai hookers all over the place...been to Koh Phangan & Koh Tao, found those much nicer) is, that the room was so humid! This meant crawling into bed after a long day and being wrapped in a damp, humid blanket.
Service: reception was very helpful at all times.
