“Surprisingly good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2014

It was day 3 of my road trip up north. I started early morning from Dehradun to Uttarkashi (took a wrong turn at Mussoorie and ended up driving on a completely broken road for 6 hours), drove up to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and then back to Rishikesh. This was just a few months after the terrible floods in Uttarakhand and the roads, while some of the most beautiful and picturesque, were the worst I have ever driven on. In fact, just before Rishikesh, there was a landslide which was being cleared by 2 JCBs to make some kind of a motor-able pass.

I reached Rishikesh well past midnight with no booking in hand. After scouting around for more than an hour, I found The Amaris... Strange name I thought, but I was too exhausted to think any further. The locked gate was opened as soon as I drove up and flashed my lights. The staff at the reception was alert, attentive and pleasant. I checked in within minutes and had a sound sleep (whatever little bit I could).

I had to leave early the next morning and head back to catch a 5 pm flight from Delhi. I requested the staff to pack breakfast for me. They packed some omelet sandwiches and aloo parathas which I enjoyed on the way. I also requested the watchman to wash my car which he did very well.

It was not an extra ordinary 5-star hotel, but very comfortable and one where you would appreciate the basic comforts to ensure a restful sleep. So if you're on your way from Uttarkashi or Gangotri to Delhi and need a place to spend the night, The Amaris is bang on the highway and a great place to halt journey.

Booked 2 rooms through some portal and on reaching had to wait for 20 minutes as they didnt got the confirmation and at last they told there mail id has changed hence they didnt recevied the vouchers. Rooms were stinking. Changed 3 rooms and at the last have to ask them to spray room freshner so that we can stay. No AC working at reception.
Buffet breakfast was literally pathetic.... what should we expect from a 3 or 4 star hotel ? Chhola bhatura too oily and not at all tasty, porridge and idly sambar (dont know how can they call it sambar) and lastly bread toast (the only thing to eat) overall it was pathetic experience.

Excellent Location away from the noise of the town filled with tourists. Good lobby area and good space to park your own car. The staff is courteous specially the Room Service staff. Stayed there for good 2 weeks and stayed comfortably. Took a Deep Tissue Massage at the spa on the 5th floor and the Burmese masseuse was well trained and master at her skill. The terrace area is good to spend some time in the evening, after dinner.

Room Tip: Do not stay in Room nos 107 and 108 as they have no sound barricading from Ground floor to these two...

I stayed there for over a month. It is clean but the wi-fi doesn't work. Food is not great and the service is really bad. You ask for something and you get something else. They don't take instructions properly. By the time, food comes to your room, it's already cold. Even when one is in the restaurant, they forget your order.
Rooms are small and cramped.
Totally avoidable.
