“There is a photograph around every corner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

La Sultana, Oualidia, is a little piece of paradise. Totally unspoilt, still (only the sound of birds, the ocean and the wind), and pure fresh air.

All the staff are courteous and well trained and could not do enough for us, whether it was sorting out a new sim card for our mobile phone, to charging a shaver, nothing was too much trouble.

Our room was delightful, beautifully details and very private. The food and local wine was equally delightful.

The smell of essential oils filled the internal courtyard, due to the clever design of the spa.

There are so many positive comments I wish to write, but will end with the design of the hotel and grounds, both of which were spectacular. The hotel looks as though it has stood for 100 years, every single detail is clever and well thought out. The grounds were beautiful, tiny details made me brim with delight.

La Sultana was our last stop on a tour of Mid Morocco. Having spent time in Marrakech and Essaouira, Ouailidia is very peaceful, very beautiful and the hotel, with just 11 rooms, is an oasis of peace on the lagoon.

The Sultana Oualidia was the first stop on our Morocco honeymoon last year, and what a perfect beginning location it was. After our wedding we were looking for a peaceful place to unwind and be catered to-- the service was impeccable and we felt free to do whatever we liked with minimal interruption. We found the nature and surroundings to be naturally beautiful and the accommodations to be excellent. We'd recommend a few days here over some of the lesser cities in Morocco-- you won't regret it.
It's the kind of place where the queen of Morocco is staying next door and you don't even notice (we did say hello once, but in the way a guest says hello in passing to another!).

We arrived in Oualidia after Marrakech, La Sultana was a stunning haven after the blistering hot and busy streets of the big city!
From the moment we arrived the staff were very attentive - everyone spoke perfect english and french (we are a french-english couple) and they could not be more helpful and polite!
The hotel is settled overlooking a lagoon and then the sea just after it -great view and there was also the possibility of surfing lessons in the lagoon, which we would have loved to do but ended up having too much fun resting at the hotel!

The pool just blew me away -it was an infinity pool overlooking the lagoon - we would have a glass of wine and watch the sunset poolside! there was also individual spas dotted all around the pool (perfect for a couple), they were natural seawater you could fill them at the temperature you wanted!

The rooms are luxurious and very comfortable (the decor is stylish and moroccan themed) -the hamman looked nice too (we didn't use the facilities there but will next time we go!)
The hotel itself it nestled so comfortably in the natural landscape that you couldn't even see it at first until you descend down the driveway. We got a transfer arranged and our driver was pleasant, helpful and on time too.

Definitely would happy to return on holidays here again!

Room Tip: Delicious breakfast and dinner here too, try the seafood!

We wanted a quiet and relaxing holiday with lots of sun, an escape from our hectic lives for a week. We chose Morocco due to a relatively short flight since we went on holiday with our one-year old girl. La Sultana Oualidia turned out to be the perfect choice for us.

Service: The dedication of the people and the cordiality was second to none. Several times the staff jumped through hoops to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They truly ran the extra mile on several occasions given some of our requests for the baby involved a 1hr car drive one way. This made the difference to so many other resorts. The people were not just friendly & polite, they genuinely cared. One has to salute to the management to be able to achieve this standard in that area - this is ever more impressive considering what one sees during the car drive from the airport to the hotel.

Food: The restaurant was very good and the menu offered enough variety to feed us through a whole week without getting boring/repetitive. They cook a very broad variety, from the largest luxurious crustaceans platter known to mankind (at remarkably affordable price) to Moroccan tagine dishes and burger with French fries. It is also very fair priced. The seafood is especially noteworthy as the hotel has their own huge aquarium holding live lobster, spiny lobster, spider crab, sea urchins, oysters, razor clams and other.
Breakfast is a very good balance between Western and Moroccan flavors. The espresso is also exceptionally good.

Rooms: Our suite was perfectly designed and fit for our purpose of staying with a one-year old baby. Room cleaning was flawless. Furniture was tasteful, practical and convenient. Noteworthy are the free soft drinks in the minibar (which was daily, fully restocked), demonstrating that the hotel is not in the business of pickpocketing the customer.

Kids activities: The nearby surf and kite school is excellent for beginners. The school picked us up with a motor boat every day and at no extra cost. At the hotel, the children have the pools and some games (beach volleyball, table tennis). For our baby, the staff was again overly attentive and it worked perfectly for our little treasure.

Activities in Oualidia: Better just stay in La Sultana - it's not worth the effort to try something outside the Sultana infrastructure. The service and quality will drop rapidly and makes one feel guilty to have missed out on some quality time in the hotel.

Guests: We've seen during our stay a broad mix of guests - families, couples, honeymooners, seniors ... So, one will generally fit into the crowd. Despite the price tag of the hotel there is a very low key attitude of the guests. The small hotel creates a more intimate atmosphere and guests get to know each other. A nice feature compared to the 5* chains with their 100+ bedrooms.

Hotel: The design of the hotel is very pretty and with much attention to detail. It fits perfectly into the landscape and the views are astonishing. The view from the infinity pool over the lagoon at various times of the day is breathtaking. Another remarkable feature of the hotel is that you will find your own space in the hotel because of the many retreat possibilities. At any point one can switch his holiday experience to a completely private one (candle light dinner at the pier, pick-nick at the beach, lunch at the terrace of the room).

Weather: The weather was better than what the forecasts on the internet suggested. Most days were comfortably warm, sunbathing days at the pool in April.

La Sultana Oualidia is a great place if you want to completely switch off and escape for a week.

A few of the previous negative comments we do not agree with - we had a noise issue on the second day, similar to what Beluga C mentioned, but we told the management and after 15mins it was gone and never returned. Some outsiders, who did not stay at the hotel, and complained about non-issues in restaurants or spa should keep in mind that for the hotel, there is much more at stake to get it right with its own guests. And they do get it right as shown by the high ratings. Yet I am sure that La Sultana can deliver a great dinner or spa experience for outsiders.

Truly recommendable experience - make sure you stay at least for a few days and not just a weekend!

Room Tip: We do not believe in general that there is significantly more value above suite-level. So I recommen...

We stayed at La Sultana for our honeymoon and never once regretted our choice. We found everything about this hotel faultless, with the staff deserving a special mention for their discrete attentiveness and desire to make your stay special. The location of the hotel and the views it affords are spectacular whilst the food from breakfast to dinner was delicious, with good variety every day. We will definitely be returning in the future and would gladly recommend it.
