We have dined at Basic Necessities for years during visits to Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge mountains, and it is always a delightful experience. Do not be put off by appearance; it is friendly and warm, and the cuisine is excellent, a touch of southern France. The vegetables are locally grown and fresh, and the soups are wonderful. On Friday and Saturday evenings they have a musician who plays guitar and sings great old songs. There is an eclectic selection of wines brought in by Kay Pfaltz, who founded the restaurant over 15 years ago. She is usually available to recommend a perfect match for your meal. It's small, and reservations are a must for Friday and Saturday. It's also a great place for lunch! It is one of our favorite restaurants regardless of location, but it is the perfect spot if you're visiting the Blue Ridge near Nellysford, VA.
