“Wonderful Historic Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

This is a fantastic history experience seeing the mansion where George Washington lived and just imagining Lafayette and Washington sitting by the fireplace playing cards. This is a large estate so be prepared to walk quite a bit especially if you're going to take the boat tour down by the Potomac River. It's way down the hill and way back up again for the mansion tour. Unless you just want a boat ride, I'd skip that part as the view from the mansion is breathtaking and the boat doesn't get very close at all to mansion. I especially loved all the out buildings with people dressed in period attire doing gardening and blacksmith work. It's quite humbling standing next to George and Martha Washington's tomb. Well worth a day trip if you're in the area.

“Lots to see, kids were engaged.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

I wanted to go here because of National Treasure Book of Secrets. While waiting for the house tour we walked around to all the other buildings and read the boards aloud for our children. The foreign people visiting were following us around because I think it made it easier for them to have someone else reading the boards... Lol We didn't mind. The house tour was great. There was a food court by the store. The store itself was great!! Lots of everything for everyone. We spent quite a bit of money in there, prices were surprisingly reasonable!

Mt. Vernon is a must see for anyone in DC for the first time. It offers keen insight into the nations first president and his life.

“Amazing History, Beautiful Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

We had been to Mount Vernon years ago with a group. This time we had our 11yr old son with us so we wanted to take him to see it. They have added some really neat things like the museum and Gallery. We were very impressed with the quality of everything. Wax figures of Washington at different stages of his life. It also had a 15min theater presentation that was really good and included special effects. Of course, going to see the house and the grounds never ceases to amaze me. You can also go down and visit Washington's Grave. Its an incredible feeling to be standing at the place where one of the founding fathers and first president is laid to rest. The tour guides at the house are very knowledgeable and you learn a lot of interesting things as you go through. not a long drive at all from DC. There is a lot of walking involved. we ate at the restaurant there and really enjoyed it as well. A great half day trip!

“Worth The Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

We started with the boat ride on the river which was enjoyable. The house tour was nice but there were lots of people. The grounds of the estate are very beautiful and worth walking around. Go see the movies in the museum.
