“Great place for a family reunion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2009

Wanted to tell everyone what a wonderful reunion week we had at Littlepage Inn. The freedom to have 22 people including 9 children, ages 4 through 14 with each family having their own self contained area was wonderful. At the last reunion we had a huge house, each family had their own bedroom, but without the isolation you sometimes need. Also groups of the kids could decide how they wanted to pair up and where to sleep each night.

The pool was obviously a big hit and the number of pool toys and games they provided, kept everyone burning off as much energy as they wanted. In addition it was a good common area for family members to come and go. That also was the beauty of the large and comfortable dining room; we all ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together or sometimes the kids first at dinner and then the adults. We decorated the dining room and hallway with handmade Confederate and Union flags, as well as typical menus for aristocrats, average people and slaves for our Civil War night festivities.

Family members came from Rome, Italy, Massachusetts, Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia and Virginia. They all had different interests so the location was perfect for the pontoon rides on Lake Anna, trips to Jamestown, Luray Caverns, the Shanandoahs, the local battlefields at Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Fredericksburg. In addition, some of the family went to Washington DC, before, during and after the reunion.

We used the inn for a wedding and after we left were given the impression everything was fine. A month later, we were charged over $1000 in fees for "damage" and extras we supposedly used despite the fact none of this was pointed out before we left the property. Our credit card was charged immediately and John Alexander, the property manager (son of the owner) refuses to discuss the matter. He's perfectly happy to steal money from people.

Halloween weekend. Our most horrible B and B experience....no one greeted us when we arrived. Son (caretakerO of owner not informed we were coming. Finally let into house, no assistance with anything, told us breakfast food in refrig....we were to fix our own. Pitch black night, this place is truly in the middle of nowhere. Knocking of huge front door "let us in, let us in!" Another couple arrived/ no manager in site. We ended up providing them tour of the house, settling them in their room. We fixed breakfast together in the morning. For this we paid full price $125/night.
The only good thing is that this house is virtually an intact archive of a planataion house of the pre-Civil war year, even the attic is full of family stuff. Travel to another era...interesting but eerie.

What a lovely way to get away from it all! Located near Lake Anna State Park, this Inn was exactly what we needed--acres of pasture, mooing cows, a variety of birds, gardens, and of course, incredible history. The main house's original architecture, period furniture, and artwork are just gorgeous. There are books there depicting the house's history and renovations. There are copies of original writings from the first owners, dating back to the early 1800's. If you love antiques and old houses, this is the place to be!

We stayed in the "East Barn" in the Ladies' Suite, which was really cute, private, clean, and "period" looking. I like that there is a shared kitchen where you can prepare your meals. The owners provide breakfast food; you can bring other food to prepare for lunches and dinners if you want to. There are other buildings to explore and there is a swimming pool.

Highly recommend this place if you need a romantic getaway!

  • Liked — The atmosphere, absolutely!
  • Disliked — Nothing.

We stayed at the Littlepage for a 30th Birthday Party in October. The house and its outbuildings are almost untouched (aside from newly added modern conveniences like AC and electricity) from their original state. You can feel history in the creeky floors and tall ceilings. The setting is absolutely spectactular; a very idyllic "middle of nowhere" amid rolling fields. From the porch and the pool, you can't see any of the other nearby farms.

The furnishings are a bit shoddy, but not enough to detract from your visit.

Go to Littlepage if you are looking to get away from everything, not expecting a full service hotel (or even B&B) and are willing to find quaintness in age. It is not superslick, and clearly could be improved if the owners were able to invest more money in the furnishings, but it is still a lovely place.

I came away wishing that I could buy it for myself. It's a perfect country house.

  • Liked — A throwback to the plantation era
  • Disliked — Could use a renovation

We recently stayed at the Littlepage Inn located in Mineral, VA. We payed $2100 in rent for a week and a $500 in security deposit. After our move out inspection they had agrees everything was in place but late we received an letter saying we had ransancked the place and owe them $850. Also they had promised pool would be open when we check in but what do you know it was under repair. They wouldn't refund or reduce the rent for this either. We will be taking them to court in this regard. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!
