Description: The delightful restaurant at The Old Plow is situated in a charming 17th century inn in the picturesque Chiltern Hills, thirty minutes from Oxford. The dining room with its oak beams, log fire and crisp linens - is a favourite with local celebs, and over its 400 year history the restaurant has hosted the likes of Jeremy Irons, Jay Kay and even Charles II. The Old Plow's unfussy eclectic, modern menu has an emphasis on fresh seafood and classic French sauces. We love the salt and pepper chilli Devon squid with balsamic glaze and rocket leaves; the roast Cornish rump of lamb with apricot and mint chutney; and the seared scallops and bacon with lemon butter sauce. With bucket-loads of authentic charm and a superb French wine list The Old Plow provides a memorable location for business lunches, evening meals and private parties.

“What a great place to spend New Years Eve”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

New Years Eve 2012 was a most enjoyable occasion thanks to the fantastic efforts of Oliva Cowan and the team at The Old Plow.

I was part of a party of 10 who were truly dined in style. I had ot been there for many years for New Years Eve, however we booked early and were so well looked after. From the champagne reception to the disco at the end run by Malcom Cowan you could not fault it.

The food excellent and over the years the quality has remained really good and excellent value for money.

We also went there in October for a "Bistro" meal. This again was really great.

So if you are looking for great food in a beautiful country setting for lunch or dinner, then The Old Plow is the place to go to.

It won't be long before we will go there again.

“Historic setting, fabulous food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

My husband , his parents and I visited The Old Plow as a birthday treat and we weren't disappointed.

A Beautiful historic pub welcomes you with it's low beams and warm log stove, decorated with a delightful mish mash of life! As we arrived our costs were taken and hung. We were leisurely ushered to our table where we were looked after by hostess proprietor Olivia. Olivia made as feel as though we were guests in her own home providing us with a comfortable level of attention.

Our starters arrived quickly, between us we sampled mussels, soup, smoked chicken salad and cold meat platter. Not one of us disappointed! The mains swiftly followed and once again we dined on carefully cooked, high quality food. The fillet steak I had was impeccably cooked and melted in your mouth. The only one minor criticism came from my father in law who found his seafood platter cooled quickly on the plate which wasn't warmed. Nevertheless he ate every last scrap! The menu features a lot of fish, but there are other options too.

Starters ranged from aprox £8-12 and mains £14-£25.

“consistent excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

8 of us locals came here last night again for their ledgendary New Years eve party; plus about 50 other regulars, so the place was buzzing.
It's just amazing how such consistently wonderful fare can be produced under such hectic and crowded circumstances. A truely historic meal by any standards, coupled with excellent and charming service [as always] made for a great end to 2012 and looking forward to many revisits in 2013.
ps: the music was spot-on too.

“Fantastic Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

My wife and ! had a meal with a couple of good friends to start our Christmas festivities last week and we decide on The Old Plow as the venue. We were not disappointed. The food was out of this world, particularly the sea food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, although it is rather expensive. Do try it for a special occasion, it is worth it.

“A Gem nestled in the Chilterns”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We journeyed from Leighton Buzzard to eat here and were not disappointed. I was tempted by a write up in the Exclusive magazine and am glad that this was one of those that I had actually made the effort to go and experience first hand.
The Chef/Owner is ex Maxims Paris and what I love about this restaurant is that it is almost like a time capsule of all of what we loved most about the best cuisine of Europe brought over in the '80s to us here. A gorgeous dried Serrano curred ham was offered as the special for starters, wonderful fish and delightful creative accompaniments of intricate rice and vegetables went down very well! This is a restaurant, a proper restaurant. It makes such a nice change from Bistro/Gastro Pubs which have taken up such prominence in our eating agendas. I recommend this for any occasion although Id be tempted to say just for two over candlelight! It has a really romantic ambiance and we were in the 'Bistro' side! The service is EXCEPTIONAL. The lady owner and her attentive waiting staff go out of their way to make your visit a happy one. Nothing is too much trouble.
