“Lovely Gem with Service to Match”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2008

My husband and I can only get away from work in small increments of time, so where we go and stay can be important to us. We just spent three nights in the Middleburg Country Inn and had a wonderful time.

JoAnne is a charming host and goes above and beyond with service. The breakfasts were delicious and we were given a menu from which to order which is usually not feasible for a small B&B. The building is beautifully restored and decorated with lovely gardens and located right in town which is our preference as we like to walk to stores and restaurants.

The inn is located very close to several wineries, but we chose to tour with Deidra of Viginia Wine Adventures, a Louden County wine tour company, so we would not have to worry about driving around the countryside - rather we relaxed and enjoyed the beauty of the surroundings. We were visiting during the week and found through our tour guide Deidra that not all of the wineries are open weekdays so her experience saved us a lot of time. She is obviously well known to the wineries!

We found the stay top qualtiy for the price and look forward to visiting again. We strongly recommend this inn to those who would like to stay in a beautiful little town and not have to drive to shop and dine which is a great asset in these times of high gas prices.

This bed and breakfast was truly special! JoAnn and Kevin could not have been nicer and more accommodating, from the delicious breakfast to the wine to the fresh cookies and ice cream to planning out our day with us, they were exceptional.

The inn itself was gorgeous and close to everything, our room, the Sully was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, everything was great.

I do not have one bad thing to say about my stay here and would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone!

The first thing that struck me about the Middleburg Inn B&B was the lovely landscaping. It looks as though every plant was put in just the right spot, and it was all lush and colorful. The historic building is very beautiful, and the hospitality is warm and gracious. The owner, Joanne, prepares a fabulous breakfast every morning, and it includes her famous lemon cake (Just the thought has me salivating). The place is decorated flawlessly, and the beds are fit for royalty. Absolutely beautiful rooms, and lusciously comfortable. The location is within walking distance to Middleburg's quaint shops and restaurants. Any lucky traveler who stays at the Inn will enjoy tremendous hospitality and (of course) the best lemon cake imaginable!

We spent a wonderful night at the Middleburg Country Inn. The location is perfect- in town and within walking distance of some good places to eat and shop. Our room was on the third floor but we had no trouble going up and down the stairs. The room was very nicely decorated and comfortable. Breakfast was a treat- one of the best breakfast we have had at a bed and breakfast. Joann was very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. I highly recommend this place!

I have to say that I was completely amazed to see that the Middleburg Country Inn was rated the Number One Bed and Breakfast in Middleburg! I recently stayed here for one night and I can tell you that I will never, ever go back.

The inn is very, very dated, not well-decorated and NOT comfortable. No one offered to help carry my heavy luggage up to the third floor - quite a hike with a full suitcase. The advertised "king sized four poster bed" was a joke - it was pieced together from a regular bed and four tall posts - hardly the "four poster" one usually experiences. It had more than one mattress on it and swayed side to side when you sat or laid upon it. Sleeping was absolutely miserable, as the bed would keep moving when you rolled over during the night. Still - I was willing to ignore the tacky, dated decor , the miserable bed, the rug and carpet covering holes in the floor, flimsy furniture that would fall on top of you if you were not careful (I opened a very flimsy armoire to find more pillows and it started falling forward on me. No extra pillows, either!) and the loud fan beside the bed (to drown out the strange loud noises that woke us up in the morning at 6am?) in favor of the inn being clean - until showering the next morning. It was clear that the bathroom had not been adequately cleaned - evidenced by a previous guests' curly dark hair all over the shower walls. Not only is this place in serious need of an update, they need to seriously look at simple things like cleanliness.

Breakfast itself was very good. Delicious, but completely ruined when it became obvious that the owner and wanted us to leave immediately. What happened to Southern hospitality? My friend and I were merely sitting chatting - without being asked if we wanted anything else - when we were rudely interrupted by the owner reminding us that checkout was at 11:00am. We were well aware of this, but felt we were being forced out of the breakfast room before we were ready - and well before 11:00am. Besides being asked over and over if we wanted more coffee as it was "at the end of the pot," we were never asked if we needed anything else. The owner even interrupted us to take a newspaper out of my friend's hand to give to another guest - a newspaper available for free in Middleburg on the street. We felt very strange and awkward and could not wait to leave. We learned afterwards that local people in Middleburg do NOT recommend this inn to their friends. If only we had known!

The owner would be wise to take a look at how she treats her guests. If she had bothered to be pleasant instead of brisk and rude, it would have gone a long way in my considering a return visit. As it is now, the amount paid for a stay such as this leaves a bitter taste. According to the previous reviews on this site, this inn is HIGHLY overrated.

No one likes a bad review, especially one as devastating as the one from AnnabelleLee 123. we are in the process of trying to correspond with her. Hopefully we will be able to make amends.

We will make a detailed response after we are able to contact our guest.

I surprised my husband with a one night stay at the Middleburg Country Inn (we live in DC). Joann and Kevin were wonderful and truly make this inn a special place. From our arrival, they offered us wine and fresh baked cookies. They recommended the French Hound for dinner and made our reservations for us--we were not disappointed! The food was delicious. We stayed in the Sully room on the second floor which was very comfortable with a nice jacuzzi tub. The breakfast the next day was so much more than I would have expected and Kevin gave us some suggestions and directions to local attractions and wineries to visit. This is such a wonderful place and right on the main road of Middleburg. You can walk around town and go shopping and then retire to the inn to relax and sit on the back porch. We had a lovely experience. Thank you Joann and Kevin!

We take our bike group there every year for a two-night stay, and it is always a highlight of our trip. Joann and Kevin (owners) are delightful! Plus they make chocolate chip cookies every day and even offered all of us wine one evening after our night on the town. All the rooms at this B&B that I have seen or stayed in have been clean and lovely. And it is just a block or two away from the shops in Middleburg. This year our bike group compared notes, and I think this was the only B&B that actually offers a selection of hot items at breakfast that are made to order and brought to the table by a waitperson. So much better than the too-common cold stuff that other B&Bs provide.

It's the best place in Middleburg, as far as I am concerned.
