“Exceptional Corporate Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

We utilized this magnificent property for a private, corporate event. We had guests in attendance that were from all over the country and even a few international. As they drove down the long, winding entrance into the property, the sun streamed through the trees and glowed like a Thomas Kinkade painting. There was still dew on the grass and the leaves as we arrived that morning so the entire courtyard was gleaming. The first word that comes to my mind to describe this property is "enchanting." The property is so charming that you feel like you are in a fairy tale. As we approached the front door they were opened by the property managers, Craig and Linda. They greeted each and every one of our guests warmly and welcomed them into their "home." The guests were truly mesmerized. They had no idea that they could find such a wonderful gem less than an hour away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The guests had a delicious lunch prepared by Chef Ben. He is very well versed in Farm to Table preparation. He utilized the freshest ingredients such as vegetables, herbs and eggs taken directly from the farm and the menus were seasonally inspired. The food presentations were artistic and the food quality superb. His attention to detail did not go unnoticed by our guests. The guests that stayed overnight were treated to some of the most lovely, elegant accommodations that maintained the integrity of the original estate. Each room had such character and many included fireplaces and patios. So many different features varied in each cottage - sleigh bed, French country décor, claw footed tub, exposed beams or covered porches overlooking the rolling country side. It is such a serene, idyllic location that provides inspiration and a renewed spirit. Of course none of this would possible without exceptional staff. It was very clear to us that each and every person that was working at the property during the week of our event sincerely cared about our program and our guests. They made each guest feel genuinely welcomed and I have a feeling that they will be welcoming many of them back again in the near future.

Greetings CorpPlanner

Thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to comment on your groups past function at the Goodstone. With our limited number of guest rooms and spacious location we can focus all of our efforts to insure that every event and stay is special for those involved.

The staff always enjoys hearing nice comments from our guests. Your description of the setting was perfect, you painted the perfect picture.

We hope you will return to the Goodstone soon.

Regards,

My wife and I stayed in the French cabin for our 5th wedding anniversary. There was champagne and a cheese plate waiting for us, which we enjoyed in front of a cozy fire. Then we had an amazing dinner at the restaurant. Steven the manager of the restaurant, not only did he remember us from a previous lunch, but he found us a bottle of wine that was no longer on the wine list. After a wonderful night in the country without our 2 kids, we enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing breakfast the next morning. I have been a chef for 18+ years, and I would highly recommend Goodstone for any occasion, and personally can't wait to go back again.

Thank you for spending your anniversary at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the French Farm. It is nice to escape your daily routine with children and work to spend some alone time on your special day. Dinner at the Goodstone is a wonderful experience for both flavor and ambience.

My wife and I are staying at the new Salamander resort and decided to try the Goodstone Inn based on other Trip Advisor reviews. Bottom Line- the food here is twice as good as Harriman's at the Salamander. Everything about the meal was spectacular: great service, interesting and flavorful cuisine, romantic ambience. A fantastic night out.

Having attended a marvelous birthday luncheon for a friend, I wanted to share the natural beauty of this place with my husband. We stayed in the Manor House that offers a comfortable elegance only surpassed by the sweeping vista of the rolling hills with the horses and cattle. Dinner was superb. My husband's steak was the most tender I have tasted, and my scallops were equally excellent. The people at the Inn are gracious and exceptionally hospitable. Even in the middle of a Virginia November when trees are leafless, there is a magnetic charm there will draw us back in the future.

Room Tip: The Stuart Suite is a spacious, first floor room with a private deck. Nearby is a sitting area with...

We heard Middleburg was a nice place to escape and was able to get a room at the Goodstone last minute. The place is amazing if you want a place to relax and escape. The farm is beautiful! it's hard to believe you are so close to the madness of the city. The service is amazing and the people there are warm and friendly. You get the sense their main goal is to take care of their guests. Would highly recommend if you are in need of a quick getaway. Even a night will do you wonders!

Dear happytravelernp,

Thank you for staying at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant, the staff and I are so glad you enjoyed your stay. This is truly the hidden gem, from the minute you come up the drive you get a sense of relaxation and fresh country air! The Goodstone is just far enough from the city that it leaves you feeling MILES away. We hope you come back for a visit again soon and thank you for the great review I will share this with the team.

My wife and i enjoyed the restaraunt, room and staff. Inviting and warm environment. Met the owner and his wife. Nice guy who has kept that same attitude through the staff!

County breakfast had a nice omelet special and decent portions. Dinner experience was very nice. We did a price fixe for four courses and thought each course was well dine and presented well. Be patient though this is a 2 hr dinner!

Dear Wayneva,

I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. The owner and his wife did visit this past weekend and enjoyed meeting you as well. The Goodstone is so stunningly beautiful that it makes a great venue for any reason to visit.

Dinner at the Goodstone will be a dining experience you should allow at least an hour and a half to two hours. We use only the freshest ingredients and every dinner is prepared from scratch. We want our dining guests to come, relax and enjoy our fine dining experience. Thank you for the wonderful review and hope you visit us again soon.

After a quickie wedding, friends who couldn't make it gifted us with a stay at this amazing Inn. We arrived after a short one hour drive from DC and were greeted by warm staff and the most beautiful surroundings. It was midweek, so there were few guests and we were given an upgrade to the Mare Suite. The room was lovely, roomy, and well appointed in country chic. We were instructed to help ourselves to amenities in the fridge. We frequently stay at Hyatt properties, so we've come to expect $7.00 waters and sodas, but not here. Tea was offered in the carriage house, but we passed to begin exploring the grounds and farm. The heated pool was in an idyllic setting, so we immediately regretted not bringing suits. We wandered down towards the farm and impressive gardens where we were greeted by the herd of cows that were lounging in the late afternoon sun. We pressed on to Goose Creek and poked around for a time. We worked up a thirst, so we headed back to our suite to enjoy some of the local wine we had picked up earlier in the day at some of the surrounding Virginia wineries. I was thoroughly impressed by the heavy duty wine key with "Goodstone Inn" etched in the rosewood. I later inquired at the bar in the carriage house if the wine key was available to buy, but I was told by the gentleman at the bar that I was welcome to take the one in the room when we left. Really? But of course, was his reply. We lounged at the bar for a time before going in to dinner. We were told to take the table of our choice, and there were two large parties set up, so we chose, at our hosts suggestion, a small table off in the corner by the huge arched windows. The waiter and the sommelier walked us through the menu, made suggestions, and advised if we were going to have more than two courses, that the price fix option was the best value. Our waiter also suggested that the sommelier could put together a tasting menu of wines paired to our course choice. Best Decision Ever! My Husband chose the gazpacho with cucumber, the heirloom tomato salad, and the Chateaubriand. I had the wild mushroom crepe, the bib salad with fig and serrano ham, and the Chilean Sea Bass. Each course was a marriage of fresh farm ingredients and impeccable presentation. Sublime! The wines were expertly paired with each course to make the meal even more memorable. During the course of our meal, a party of eight was sat, and then a party of nineteen. The whole time, we were still attended to, as if we were the only guests. We finished up by both ordering the creme brûlée and coffees. The creme brûlée had a perfect sugary crust, and decadently creamy base. One of the best we have ever had. The large party was getting a little loud as we were finishing up, so we took our coffee and "retired" to the great room and sat in front of the massive stone fireplace in a couple of comfy club chairs. After dinner cognacs were offered on the house. We had to oblige! Back to the suite for a very restful night on a very comfy bed. We woke early enough to get back to the city, but gave ourselves enough time to enjoy the complimentary breakfast. Our lovely English waitress was also our chef. She brought out fresh warm croissants and jam and poured delicious fresh coffee. She suggested that the eggs benedict could be ordered with smoked salmon instead of the canadian bacon. Great idea, and just perfectly prepared. She included a piece of the fresh smoked bacon from the farm, because, as she said, it must be tried!. As we were leaving, she inquired how far we were traveling, and when we told her it was just back into DC, she insisted we take a little care package. There were very few guests over the next couple of days, so she brought out a little basket of heirloom tomatoes and peppers from the farm, as well a dozen eggs that had been "brought up just this morning". From start to finish, this was one of the nicest stays we have ever experienced. We were made to feel welcome, wined and dined, pampered and gifted. We look forward to the opportunity to return, and have heartily recommended this lovely Inn and Restaurant to friends and family.
