“Very Very Goodstone, Redux”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We returned to the Goodstone this weekend and once again we had a wonderful time. The staff was very helpful and attentive, both Amy and David made special efforts to make sure our visit was as delightful as ever. The kitchen was undergoing renovation, which required it to be closed for dinner on the second night of our stay, but instead of being an inconvenience this turned out to be a stroke of luck. The kitchen staff prepared a special dinner for us and delivered it to our room, so we enjoyed a romantic dinner in front of a cozy fire in the Bull Barn Cottage.

The Bull Barn Cottage is the newest of the Goodstone's rooms and is best described as a luxurious rustic cottage. The cottage is a converted barn located near the working heart of the Inn's farming operation. The Goodstone's owner and general manger, Mark Betts, is in the process of creating a sustainable farming operation at the Goodstone. The goal is to raise as much of the produce and protein for the Goodstone's restaurant as possible on site, creating a true "farm to table" dining experience.

This was our first opportunity to meet Mark in person and it is clear that the emphasis placed on attention to detail and personal service found at the Goodstone starts at the top.

We again found the Goodstone to be a delightfully restful and romantic country getaway.

“wonderful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We loved our holiday one night getaway to the Goodstone Inn. The staff (especially Debbie, Amy and Ashley) were wonderful, we loved our suite (the Stallion Suite) and everything about the Inn was perfect. The grounds are beautiful, the history of the inn is interesting, we liked the roaring fire place in the Carriage House, our suite was spotless and had good amenities, the restaurant was delicious, etc. We can't wait to go back, next time possibly in the warm weather to swim in the pool. I especially liked the thoughtful details in our accomodations, such as complimentary soft drinks and bottled water in the room fridge, a Keurig coffee maker, slippers, a half bottle of wine and nice glasses on the dresser, and chocolates. And the bed is very comfortable. The cleanliness and very good condition of our suite was also notable.

“Good Food & Beverage; but Mediocre Lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

A last-minute weekend getaway got off on the wrong foot when the staff informed us that the suite we had reserved only hours before really wasn't available, and that we were being "upgraded" (in reality, just "moved") to the main carriage house. We suspect the real reason was that the original room - which is in a separate building further out on the property - was probably the only one they had rented in that building, and it would require sending housekeeping out to the far corners of the property for only one room.

As a result, we ended up in a ground floor suite that opens onto the main walk into the property. Windows on the back side looked onto the parking lot and service walkway. We had two nights of noise and light (drapes in the room were not blackout drapes, so the light from the outdoor spotlights kept the room very bright). Neither is conducive to sleep. To top it off, what was billed as a queen sized four-poster was actually a double. We know...we have a queen bed at home.

Food and beverage were better, though we did not find the dining room particularly comfortable. The chairs in particular were somewhat saggy and uncomfortable. The room was laid out in a simple rectangle with tables around the perimeter and a row down the middle - about 36 seats in all. Nothing to break up the space and give guests any sense of privacy. The seating in the bar/reception/living room space (take your pick - it serves all 3 purposes) was more comfortable, but while they serve breakfast there, they do not serve dinner. Only appetizers.

Food quality was good, so maybe some of the earlier posts have made a difference. Or maybe it's just an inconsistent kitchen. In any event, our experience was good, though very expensive.

Room Tip: Stay out of the main carriage house unless you like having dining room patrons wake you up when they...

“Very expensive mediocre restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Didn't stay at hotel but had 7 for dinner in restaurant . A very expensive ($900) dinner for average food.

Lamb was over seasoned. Sea bass was over sauced for a delicate fish. Out of creme brûlée for dessert( really?). Onion soup lacked flavor and gruyere cheese. Pear tart for dessert tastes like a dry piece of shortbread and if there was any pear in it, it wasn't obvious. Also, out of orange juice. How can this happen in a top facility?

Attractive dining room in a rural inn but not nearly worth the money for what was received.

There are better restaurants around and unless you are staying at the inn and don't want to drive off property, better to avoid.

“An Evening I will Never Forget!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

I work in the hospitality business and I was very impressed with everything! I was there with a group from the hotel I work at for a Christmas Get Together. The Staff were wonderful and the food was Awesome!! We tried several of the appetizers and all were very good! We all really enjoyed the wine that the waiter suggested to us. Me, as not a wine drinker needed some help choosing which wine would taste the best. The choice that he suggested was PERFECT!! They gave us cheese and crackers to eat while we waited for the rest of our Party to arrive. For dinner I had the "LE CHATEAUBRIAND BOUQUETIER ET SA SAUCE BÉARNAISE". It was amazing!!! The next morning we all got together and had a wonderful breakfast. Again, the staff were all wonderful! I will always remember my stay at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant. I plan on going back again one day!
