5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

WOW!!! Just returned from a three night stay-was pure heaven. Everything was A plus plus. The guest room was absolutely beautiful and comfortable, the furnishings throughout the lodge are breathtaking-makes you feel calm just walking in, the staff could not have been friendlier, the library room was one of my favorite places, the food was divine, the hiking trails are great...I could keep gushing. If you are thinking of going-just GO!

This place is absolutely gorgeous! The wife and I went for our tenth anniversary, and from the moment we drove up, we were in awe at the majesty of the lodge. It really is an architectural masterpiece, and is a bit overwhelming when you see it from a distance.

We were greeted promptly, and the check in process was flawless, and fast. We stayed in a Blue Ridge Suite, which was stunning! The gigantic balcony overlooked the mountains, and golf course. The room was spacious, and decorated with beautiful wood everywhere from floor to ceiling, just like the rest of the resort.

The bathroom in the master is like a span in itself. There's a very large tub, a separate shower stall with multiple heads, and a separate stall for the toilet. Our suite also had a half-bath. There is beautiful stone tile everywhere in the bathrooms, with a nice glass tile on one of the walls. The lighting is great, and is setup with Lutron smart switches, which have settings for relaxing, nightlight, full lighting, etc.

The bed was comfy, but the heavy bedding was way too hot for us to get a decent night's sleep. I almost opened the windows. I'd probably bring a thinner blanket with me next time.

The luxurious feel of this place is echoed throughout the lodge in the common areas. The lodge is small enough that you don't see a ton of people, even if the place is full. I also loved the way they valet the cars and hide them away. You don't see any parking lots full of cars, and this just accentuates the whole intimate hideaway aspect of the lodge.

There's a great pool with amazing tile everywhere, and the hot tub has fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. There's a game room for the kids with PS3 / XBox consoles, TV's, pool table, and ping pong. There's also very nice theater on the third floor, but the viewing selection is slim. The observatory is another great common area with a small library, and breathtaking views. On nights when there are no clouds, they have a resident astronomer who will show you around the heavens. Unfortunately it was too cloudy on my trip, so the telescope was not up and running.

The people working here are true hospitality pros. The staff was attentive, and very knowledgeable about the property, and activities. I have not stayed in a place where the staff was as competent as Primland. Kudos.

The hiking trails are well marked, and great fun. We did not participate in the other outdoor activities, but we did spend a fair amount of time at the spa. This spa is world class, and as good as any I have been to. The attentiveness, and excellence of the staff definitely applies to the spa as well.

I am definitely recommending this place to everyone I know who needs to get away, and experience being pampered in a luxurious resort getaway setting.

It's hard for me to rate value here, as we booked on a Travelzoo deal. The value we got was tremendous, and I'd book 10 times at those rates.

Room Tip: The Blue Ridge Suites are truly overwhelming.

service was unbelievable, golf was amazing, and the Black Bear cabin where we stayed was a great place for a golf outing.

I will be going back for sure in the future and it is not just a great place for golf. This could be a very romantic place as well and the "treehouse cabin" looks great. I'd love to go back in the fall.

My friends and I spent one night at the Woodchuck mountain home a few weeks ago. This cabin has a hotub on the porch and this was the highlight of our weekend! It felt like a dream to be sitting in the hotub and looking out over the mountains. The views are simply incredible and I'm so glad the weather cooperated with us that day because the day we checked-out was extremely foggy and you could barely see 2 feet in front of you! The other thing we liked about this cabin was that it had a full kitchen with pots, plates, and cutlery (although it was missing a cutting board which would have come in handy!) which was great considering we didn't want to spend too much money going to the restaurants on the property.

One thing I would recommend to the hotel is to post more pictures of the interiors of the cabin on their website. Since there weren't any, I was a little worried that the mountain homes were not going to be as nice as the main lodge or fairway cottages. I shouldn't have been worried though because the Woodchuck is beautifully decorated and has a really large kitchen and living room! I can't wait to go back and next time, I will be spending more time at their amazing Spa!

We had a wonderful spring break trip at Primland with our 5 and 7 yr olds last week. Each staff member was warm and hospitable. Highlights for the kids were the geocaching and ATV ride. We stayed in the Cardinal East Fairway Cottage which was amazing! Great views, great food, great people....you can't go wrong here. We are looking forward to going back in the summer to try the fishing and kayaking.

Room Tip: Cardinal East is great for a small family.
