“The Summit at Massanutten”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

We are currently staying here.. It's 1:47 am.. We are in a lower unit and the people above us must like to walk around the unit to get exercise because we can hear every step they make... The walls are paper thin and the room shakes when they walk above us..

We have been here 3 days and we have been called numerous times to do a breakfast or luncheon to give "feedback" for the resort.. 1st we were offered a 100.00 resort credit. Next we were offered a 125.00 Visa gift card... How many times do you have to tell individuals that you are NOT interested?!? I talked to a few people that had went to the meeting and 2 of them were extremely angry because of the pushiness of the individuals...

As far as the resort itself... It is wonderful.. We have never seen so much wildlife! You do not have to pay any money to hand feed animals. They will walk up to you and start eating out of your hands... I have feed numerous deers, ground hogs, and a skunk (very cautiously)

We have gone fishing and on a few nature walks. Tomorrow we will be driving into DC and on Tuesday, we will be going to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Both locations are 2 and a 1/2 hours away..

If you are staying at the summit, request a upper unit... The only reason I have not complained too badly is the fact that the lower units have gas grills located outside on the balcony.. The partial kitchen is a dual hotplate, a griddle, a microwave, and a toaster oven.. There in NO stove and oven in the lower unit... But, I do not need that when I have a grill.. Others might need their stove...

Oh yea... Big shout out to the Maintenance Man.. Matt.. He was totally awesome getting a few things fixed in my unit.. He arrived within minutes of me calling and stayed until the job was done (running back and forth to his shop) right...

I would return here again.. I would just pray that the individuals that stayed above me were not creatures of the night,,,,

Even with this issue, I would have the resort an 8 out of 10... You can't control inconsiderate neighbors..

Room Tip: Request a Upper room

We stayed at a Summit unit in December for a ski trip. Our 2 bedroom condo was clean and well appointed, but not real fancy. Keep in mind that this is a timeshare resort and they will offer you something to take a timeshare tour. We took the tour in return for free and discounted tickets to the resort. The tour took a couple hours but wasn't too pushy.

We enjoyed the resort, including the spa and skiing.

We did and RCI exchange to here since we had never visited this side of the country. The place is gorgeous. We enjoyed the pool and steam room and took many walks. I so wanted to love this resort. We had a 2 bedroom at Woodstone. We requested a higher floor but received a bottom floor overlooking golf course. It had a nice view and we decided we would just stay. The floors are thin. We could hear the people above us all the time and they were not walking hard. Annoying but not too bad. We then came back one day and found a leak down our wall. We called the front and they sent someone within 45 minutes. Great, however they needed to move us to a new room. Okay bummer but okay we again requested a top floor knowing for sure the noise was an issue. The security person was very helpful and even drove back to the front to get our new room key while we packed. They moved us to a new unit in the building next door. Of course going over there we discovered we still had a bottom floor with a view of the road. However no one was above us so noise level was good. Then 2 days later they put someone above us. Who would run and jump through the night. We put in a call to ask if someone could call and ask them to keep it down but they said quiet hour started at 11pm which we called at 10:30. Still at 1:15am they were running. Very different then our previous neighbors. I am not overly sensitive to noise as I had stayed the previous weekend in a hotel by an international airport with planes flying above my head and had no issues. This sounded like someone was going to fall through my ceiling. We opted to leave a day early than suffer another night.

It makes me sad because it really has so much potential. If you get a top floor room you would probably love it.

The resort is large and spread out so you need a car. The units are roomy and we found it quiet. There are lots of activities, but almost all are fee based so bring plenty of extra cash. It is located in the heart of much Civil War history so if you are a history buff, do day trips. There are museums everywhere. The wifi is free and works well. The waterpark was a big hit for the kids, but isn't cheap. There are 2 golf courses, but again bring extra cash.

We stayed here with my son in laws parents who have a time share. it is a beautiful area with all the shopping and restaurants one could want with just a short drive. Beautiful views! Awesome arcade which is in with the waterpark
The only down fall is that any activity you want to do on the resort costs $... The petting zoo is definitely not worth the $7.00 PER PERSON that they charge...

We stayed here 2 nights on our way back home from Roanoke, VA. The stay started off to a rocky start as the hotel here at Massanutten was not as nice as our Holiday Inn Express in Roanoke,VA. But aside from the room, we had a good time at the waterpark and other kids activities. I think that the Kids Adventure Course and the Zip Lines were my kids favorites!

We stayed at Woodstone Meadows from 5/31-6/7/14. There were two familes and we had two units at Woodstone, a full and partial kitchen 2 bedroom units. Checkin was a breeze, even though they did try and push the timeshare sell. After his 10 minute pitch we declined. We did have another 3 or 4 calls to the rooms during the stay. The rooms were clean and serviceable. Nothing overly fancy but nice none the less. The only knock, which is a big deal for us, is that the rooms were NOT smoke free. We tried to air them out the best we could but the stench was always there to some degree. The Laundry is a very small stackable unit....utensils were ok but there is always something from home you need but once again no worries.

Pools: We went to the indoor and connecting outdoor pools multiple times at the main building. Indoor is nice and heated! Very nice steam rooms and dry saunas. Outdoor pool was nice too, if not slightly cold but no worries once you got in and moving around. The one item that would have been perfect would be some sort of "tiki" type bar for light snacks and drinks.

Grounds: Beautiful views all around. The second floor unit had a better view than our first floor unit which looked right into the unit behind us. Plenty of wildlife which the kids loved, ducks, fish, deer all around. The place was pretty empty due to the time we were there so pleanty of parking and very quiet.

Kids Programs: Awesome! Our 5 kids did the Pirate adventure and the mad scientist and loved them both! The helpers were great and very interactive. Very kid friendly and happy with what they were doing. No issues with the snacks and lunch provided during each one. We did get the activity card and went to some of the tie-dying, dream catcher type of free events and those were wonderful as well. Staff was very patient and friendly.

Golf: We played both the Mountain greens and Woodstone courses. Very nicely kept and good speed of play. Beautiful views and lots of deer, especially on the Mountain greens course. Woodstone has alot of Par 3 holes but still a decent challenge. Mountain greens is very narrow through the fairways and every green is multi-tiered. Alot of fun and maddening all the same.

Waterpark: We went here twice, once for free with activity card and then paid once. Very nice and kid friendly. The lifeguards are on their game and very good at keep everyone safe. Plenty to do for small kids (ours were 6) and even older 'tweens with the surf rider and wave pool and slides. Very clean too.

Kids Zipline Park & Tubing: These were fantastic. Our kids were too small for the adult zipline so this obstacle type course was great. Plenty of climbing and even a short zipline run too. They were able to make two passes through the course. They also have the tubing in which you "sled" down on a bristle/brush slope plus they have an escalator type walkway to get back up the moutain with your tube.

Chairlift ride: This was beautiful. Clear afternoon ride all the way up the mountain. We had a few minutes to take some great pictures before heading back down.

Spa: The wife went to the Spa and said the service was great. The other wife also confirmed the people were great and so were the treatments they received.

Best non-resort trip: Luray caverns was amazing. We just walked through the caverns on our own which took about 1 hour. They did however have guides spaced through explaining different formations. They also have other things to do there, a maze and kids play area I believe. They also had some "old-time" items there too. It was very busy with school trips so we did just the cavern walk.

Romanos: This is a great italian restaurant just outside the resort. Food was perfect and the menu had a lot of options. Get the brushetta for an appetizer and the cannoli for desert! Great value as well.....

Overall this trip was a much needed get away in which we would definetly come back. So much to do that one week is not enough. We are RCI members and did a Points booking for here and worth it.
