“Standard motel accomodations with many activities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

Went for a 2-night weekend ski-trip. I will focus mostly on the hotel and food options here (although the skiing was just okay for a first timer, but people who can ski would like it). We stayed on the on-site hotel, NOT the condos. It was VERY affordable for a ski resort all-around. Less than $200 for the weekend hotel for 3 people (including taxes). Surprisingly, food and drink options were also VERY affordable - not standard for a resort away from any other options.

The room had 2 queen beds, small deck with furniture, slope-view, small sitting table and chairs, small fridge and coffee maker, old-school tv with cable, large-ish bathroom and small secondary sink with closet for teeth-brushing/hair/etc. The furnishings, carpet, etc. were worn but not dirty. Beds fine and comfy. The walls ARE thin, though, and kids are prevalent, so ask for an end room if you want less of that.

Overall I would stay again, but would need private lessons for the skiing and may ask about the condos. For the price very very happy.

Stayed in a hotel 30 mintues off-site and visited Massanutten in hopes of snow-tubing, however when we arrived at 11am, the tubing was all full for the day (advanced tickets suggested!) so we ended up visiting the indoor waterpark instead. My 2 year-old daughter loved the lazy river which had bottom-enlosed tubes for younger children. The waterpark also had several slides, a playground-type water climber for kids and a small baby/toddler pool. Spent two hours there before 2 year old and 12 year old got bored. Nice waterpark, but small and I felt it is overpriced (about the same price as going to a full amusement park) for non-resort guests.

You have golf, ski, water park, canoe, hiking, biking, ice skating and many more activities. The place is becoming over crowded, and many more condos are being build. if you can choose the the full kitchen instead of partial kitchen is recommended. The place is clean. Non smoking is optional, so you have to watch out for rooms that stinks. You can get a good offer for activities if can put up with 90 minutes the timeshare sales. Outside of the resort, there is a town no far, about 5 mile. In the town is you find Target, shopping mall, a market and you regular fast food joints. There are some other restaurants like applebees, chilis, outback..

Well just checked in today around 5pm, what a mad house! We were supposed to have two rooms in a Lock off next to each other, one with a full kitchen and one with a partial kitchen(no stove) When we arrived for check in AT 5:00 as required, we found out out two rooms were on different floors and neither had a full kitchen. Now we brought a ton of food for the week to cook and now no stove, just a microwave and a toaster oven, great right! Well it gets better, one of our rooms wasn't ready for check in because the cleaners and maitenance people hadn't done their thing. For that the clerk gave us a late check out for that room of 11:00 am. Wow thanks! So here we are all hanging out in one room waiting for the other to be ready. We drove all the way back to the office an hour later and stood around for about another 45 minutes . We asked to speak to a manager and we spoke to a gentleman who was rude as hell! As we explained our situation a young lady came into the conversation who was twice as rude and pretty much said, it is what it is, there is nothing we can do for you, call RCI if your not happy and complain to them because she couldnt do anything for us. With that, we were ready to pack up and drive 9hrs back home, very disappointed. For the kids, we decided to stay, how long we stay will be determined by
day two. Not lookin good!!

I have not been to Massanutten in 7 years and was shocked to see so many changes in 7 short years. They now have an indoor and outdoor water park, they have an ice skating rink and tons of activities for our children. We were there for only 5 days, we skied, ice skated, swam at the water park and in the regular pool. Our first night there we attended the Karaoke at the WaterPark lounge. Both my kids got up and sang, it was hokey but they had a good time. Our kids participated in the kids program Mad Scientist. My only issue with that was, the workers didn't really have good kids skills, they didn't really work at drawling them in when we arrived and they came home with lots of yucky, guey stuff that doesn't travel well. We had friends that joined us that do not ski and they too had a wonderful time, they did the wine tasting the murder mystery dinner and kept quit busy.

Only over complaint... for such a great resort i would have expected better food. At the water park lounge, when i got my glass of wine, it was in a plastic wine goblet and it had lipstick on the edge... When i returned it I was appalled to see the bartender just pour it into a clean glass... Needless to say I got a new glass of wine... we really didn't wanna eat in such a place... The food all over except the Fairways Restaurant, was really bad!! The fairways was good but not 4 star... Our last night we decided we needed a good meal to top off the trip so we left the resort and headed into the local town Harrisonburg, where we found the BEST steak I have ever had at the Union Station Restaurant http://www.unionstationdowntown.com/site/.

Bottom line is that that I would highly recommend this resort but bring your own food or... be ready to eat off site... If I owned this place I would invest in a good chef or two...

Was very skeptical about this place after eading reviews but decided that it had so much to offer for both my kids (6 and 13) that we would give it a try. I am very traveled (local & international) and have a pretty high standards for my hotel/condo requirments and this resort didnt let me down.
Check-in was great, they were very good at explaining everything ie directions, details, etc and even my confirmation said a queen size bed after they had told me on the phone it would be a king, after questioning this, they immediately asked a manager to clarify and he assured us it was a king (which it was). They told us about nearest towns, grocery stores, etc and were very helpful.
We went to our condo and it was very nice.....2 bedroom, 2 bath, jacuzzi tub, plenty of dishes, nice furnishings, very clean, etc. Parking was not an issue and no walk to our condo at all.
The next day, first thing in the morning, we recieved a phone call about hearing the time share tour.... I was very clear (with hestiation at all) and told them firmly we were not interested and they never called again, so for all you complaining that they worried you to death maybe you were not straight enough with them from day one. They work on commission if they think you might be a sale of course they are not going to leave you alone.
We spent they day at the water park.... it was awesome! The staff was great, friendly, helpful...the place was clean and well kept. You will not be disappointed to take your family and spend the day at this water park!
That night we had an issue late in the evening with hot water, they sent maintence over to take care of this and resolved our issue and no more hot water problem...they were great at fixing this problem.
Sunday we went skiing and tubing and never had a problem with staff, unclear directions, rudeness, etc!
Check out was a breeze and I feel this resort def. did everything it promised. We had a great time and will be back and would recommend it to anyone.
I write this review because after reading the below reviews I was worried about staying in this resort and boy was I wrong. I figure that they hosted in excess of 10,000 people in Dec and Jan and about 15 people wrote reviews. That is less than 1%......we had a great time and it was a great resort!

Took 5 friends for a girls trip and had an awesome time.
I only can vouch for the condos as far as accommodation. Yes you will need your car. Do not expect to come here and walk everywhere.

Our condo was nice and clean. Everything worked. The sheets were clean. Unit smelled nice upon arrival. The whirpool tub was nice for bubble baths. Cool balcony so you can open door for fresh air and see the herd of deer that roams around. Great photos. It says that it sleeps six but really you need to brink your air mats and bags for the two extras as the sleep sofa was not highly rated. The walls are thin so be prepared to be cool about other people making noise. We were on the bottom so we heard it all but we are pretty easy going. If you are super uptight about hearing other people this may not be for you. Otherwise who stays inside anyway. We used our condo to sleep and shower. We headed out early and returned late.
We used both rec centers throughout the week and enjoyed them for exercise and swimming.
We skied several times. We had a great time on the slopes too. We had private lessons and enjoyed the day and night skiing. The Encounters Lounge is right next to slope and we ate and drank there. The waitstaff was really amazing working with lots of customers. The food was good for "bar" food. I liked the mini burgers the best.
We all used the Spa at Massanutten too. I booked several weeks in advance. Highly recommend the Royal Four Hands Massage. Pretty nice.
The Fareways Restaurant was good 4 out of the six times I ate there. I think it depends on the cook. Recommend the Sausage Gravy with biscuit. 4 out of 5 times. When it was good it was phenomenal good. Do not recommend the Quesdilla. Just not good.
The Waterpark Buffet was ok for me. I do expect much for $12.95. Pasta bar and salad bar were really good. Hot vegetables just ok. Desert choices satisfactory. Chocolate Bread Pudding pretty good. Friends enjoyed sundae bar. Again what do want for $12.95?
The gas station on the corner of the entrance has all the basic needs but we used the stores on property too for a couple items here and there. Like movie rental and milk.
Ate in Harrisonburg a couple times too which is about 15 minutes down the road and everything is there.
The resort is super close to the Shenandoah we were able to use skyline drive to get to good hikes. Its nice to rest at Massanutten after a long day on the AT. They have hiking trails on the property but they were closed when we wanted to use them. So we just hiked on the millions of other miles of trails. I was lucky enough to have the ski slopes open and no snow on the roads allowing access to Shenandoah. Best of both worlds. We really enjoyed the property and we are looking forward to coming again next year.
