We have enjoyed this special linear park on foot, on bikes and on horseback. Regardless of the season, the scenery never disappoints. The footing is firm, regularly groomed by park staff. Tunnels and trestles add to the variety of your ride. Don't miss a visit to the Shot Tower, visible from I-77. Motorized vehicles not allowed on the trail. Bikes and hikers are asked to yield to horses. Public toilets are interspersed along the trail. The village at Foster Falls has camping, canoeing, picnicking. Horse Trailers are allowed to park in several lots along the trail. an Equestrian Center at Jackson Ferry includes an arena that can be rented for events or used by individuals for a small fee. Other access points are Galax, Fries, Ivanhoe, Allisonia and Pulaski. Some sections are remote, so bring your drinking water and other necessities. Views of this river cutting through the mountains are worth the trip! Modest parking and camping fees, otherwise the trail is free.
