“Perhaps the best in town...BUT”

The exterior of the hotel is very nice. It is perhaps the most attractive new building in downtown Lynchburg. There is also an attached parking garage with the same decor. Access is not good, however, as there are steps but no ramp in the connection between the hotel and the parking garage.

The downtown location is okay during the day, and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. Once the downtown businesses close, however, you definitely feel less safe walking about. There are large groups of young adults loitering about the sidewalks. In addition, on one night of my stay, my two work associates and I (all men) were confronted by two men loitering immediately outside the hotel side entrance who tried to get us to "lend them" $100. They did not force the issue, but we certainly felt unsafe after that.

As for the interior, the lobby area is very nice. There is abundant marble and a big screen television. Once away from the lobby area, however, the quality of the interior drops substantially. The halls are shabby and there are numbers missing from the elevator buttons.

The condition of my room was somewhat mixed. The air conditioning did not work well and the room always felt very humid. The humidity may explain why the wallpaper was peeling from the walls in several places; in some places there were several inches of wallpaper curling away from the walls. The hotel does have free internet access, but wireless is only available in the lobby. To use the free ethernet in the rooms, you should bring your own cables as the hotel is not prepared to supply them.

Housekeeping is weak. After I checked in, I found trash from the previous occupant in the trash cans and the sink area was soiled. When I unfolded the bath mat, there appeared to be fecal matter on it.

The remainder of the staff at the hotel were great, however. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant wait staff, hostess and manager were fabulous. The last night of my stay there was a horrendous series of thunderstorms that flooded a portion of the first floor...including the restaurant. Staff quickly moved the tables to a new area and really did an outstanding job of insuring that all guests were not inconvenienced.

The Holiday Inn Select in Lynchburg was absolutely wonderful. The staff at the front check- in was very knowlegable and helpful. Could not say enough about them. When our family was going to dinner, we were to meet up with friends. I went to the front desk to ask for help with directions. They went beyond my expectations, and printed me out map quest step by step directions to the resturant. Made my driving so easy.

The only downfall was the resturant on site is quite pricey and does not have a huge selection for their meals. I would suggest eating at other resturants especially if young children are involved.

The rooms were nice too. The bedspreads looked like they were new, and the sheets were top quality. I would highly recommend this motel, and would stay here again. Bathroom was very clean and no mold around the tub which can be a common problem.

The pool was nice and clean, and their were plenty of chairs and lounge chairs. My kids loved this motel.

“Better than most Holiday Inns”

We selected this hotel because it was located downtown and offered handicapped accessible rooms. I was stunned by the lobby and we found the room to be attractive, very clean. The price was very reasonable and better than most we had found on this trip. Since we were only there one night, we had no experience with housekeeping like other reviewers mentioned.

However, parking was inconvenient, though free. The handicapped spaces were located right next to stairs! into the lobby. It was necessary to walk quite a distance around the end of the building to get to the main front entrance--something that a mobility challenged or wheel chair guest does not appreciate!

The next morning we were unable to get a table in the dining room. We left after waiting more than 10 minutes in a growing line. There were lots of tables available, but no one to seat us and most of the empty tables had dirty dishes still waiting to be cleared. Staff would pass the line and promise to be right back and never came. A disappointing end to what would have been a pleasant stay.

“worst hotel ever!”

when we came in the front door and checked in we had problems. ok good things first. staff was dressed to the nines and the lobby was drop dead awesome. thats it.

now the bad.

the carpet in the halls was frayed in some places. the elevator that took us up to our room on the 8th floor didnt stop running even when the doors opened for us to get off. faulty at best. the card key lock on the room door took mutliple hits to open it. jammed almost everytime we left the room. the room smelled musty snd old. the toilet moved when you would sit on it. the wallpaper was falling off the wall above the window. The cherry colored furniture was chipped badly and some drawres squeaked loud when they were opened. the lampshades were missing the top finials so the slightest touch they fell off. the window treatments were help up by duct tape and a few old rusty screws. the service was awful too. i forgot my toothbrush and it took them over 30 minutes to get one up to my room from the first floor. We oredered dinner from the restaurant in the hotel and we didnt eat for over 2 hours. the food was lukewarm and the ice in the glasses was watery since the food had obviously been sitting somewhere for a while. since my husband is in the us air force, we recieved the government rate for the 2 night stay but not even the continental breakfast. nothing. nadda. zilch. even the advetise KIDS EAT FREE didnt apply, we had to payfor our sons dinner. the grout in the shower was peeling out and green in some spots and the showhead wouldnt move at all. so me being short i had to press myself against the wall to get a full on spray of water. the whole experience was awful and not to mention that this hotel sits a really bad part of town. dont go out and night and god forbid you dont lock your car up.

As far as small town hotels go, the Holiday Inn Express (Select) in Lynchburg is not bad. The lobby is clean and large, rooms are very poorly appointed with little amenities, but definitely clean. Free internet access is a plus. Location is very good.

At the $65 per night rate, it is better than some of the more expensive hotels I have stayed in. And with few options available, this is definitely a good buy.
