“Quant, comfortable stay...and gourmet!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

This was our first stay at the Magnolia House. It was quaint, historic and beautiful. It was very clean. Beds were quite comfortable. The A/C dealt with the muggy heat quite well. Our rooms were well-maintained, albeit a bit dark, however, this is typical of old houses. Breakfast was a very large portion and over-the-top with taste. The 'hospitality' amenity room was a welcome surprise with drinks, water, and snacks for free. The grounds were well-manicured. The innkeepers were very attentive, hospitable, and helpful. We highly recommend this B&B to those visiting the Lexington area.

While in Lexington for the Shenandoah Arabians Classic at the Virginia Horse Center, we stayed 3 nights in this quiet, lovingly restored home currently owned by hosts Tim and Jan Decker. The 80-year old magnolia in front is surrounded by intimate garden areas. Parking is on the street less than 50 ft from the entrance, so unloading your car is a snap. We stayed in the ground-floor Lexington room because it had a king bed which was high off the floor and very comfortable with immaculate linens. A/C with remote control was nice. Breakfasts were excellent and timely, saved in the dining room. Location an easy walk down to shopping, restaurants, and both campuses of VMI and Washington& Lee.

We just got back from the Magnolia House Inn and the hosts were absolutely extraordinary. The service provided was over the top and during our stay. We had some things we needed to tend to while in town and their accomodation was so helpful which our family sincerely appreciated.
We look forward to the next visit.

We stay in B&B's as much as possible whenever we travel, some better than others. We were certainly not disappointed by the Magnolia House. It's located in a nice quiet area of town, but within easy walking distance of everything. The Magnolia House itself is very charming and peaceful. Even though our room was one of the smallest (the Sunshine Room), it was surprisingly spacious with a nice sitting area and a functional, albeit not luxurious, bathroom. The bed was very comfortable as well.

However, this B&B really stands out with the quality of the breakfasts served. Each consisted of a separate fancy fruit course and then a hearty and delicious main course. This was probably the best B&B food we have had yet. The dining room is set up to facilitate easy conversation at the main table or a little more privacy if you like at one of the smaller side tables.

Overall, it was a very pleasant and relaxing experience and we will definitely keep it on our list!

My wife and I have a lovely overnighter with hosts Tim and Jan. The low occupancy for that night allowed the four of us to have a very nice chat at breakfast, talking about the house, family, the town and a little of our personal histories. SO nice to enjoy a room without a television! The cozy room has the most comfortable bed and top-drawer linens. The decor gives your eyes plenty to look at and study, with knick-knacks on most surfaces. A very comfortable night followed by a personalized breakfast - fresh fruit, Tim's special plate-filling omelet and more.

My husband, two friends, and I recently stayed at the Magnolia House Inn while I participated at Dressage at Lexington.

After spending hours in the brutal heat and glaring sun, it was wonderful to enter through the iron gate, walk down the short but well-tended garden path, and enter into the cool, somewhat dimly lit home of our bed and breakfast hosts. This authentically decorated Victorian home provides a first floor parlor and second floor balcony for its guests, and subtly theme-decorated bedrooms.

Our friends stayed in the Equestrian Suite, which delighted them with framed prints, oils, and lithos of horses, as well as equine-oriented books and decorations. Our own bedroom offered comfortable chairs, writing desks, a fine bed, and even a fainting couch. Nothing seemed forced or contrived in the decor, rather, it was all reminiscent of the amiable acquisitiveness that characterized the American Victorian period.

We all agreed that we would stay at the Magnolia House Inn again if the opportunity presents itself.

I am the lady who accompanied vb2387 during her recent stay at Magnolia House Inn. I wish to echo and agree with everything she said in her review. And I would like to underscore that the house is advertised as Victorian, which is an idea that appealed to us, and by Victorian mores what could be more decent or above reproach than two ladies accompanying one another? Why, the very idea. I wish to call the establishment to account regarding their claimed Victoriana.

I would like to add that I certainly felt relief at the date of the house's construction: 1868—this meant we were staying in an edifice that was not built by slave labor. For this I do give thanks.
