“Private, clean, quiet, and always friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

This a a family-run Inn with spacious rooms, extraordinary vista/landscaping, a new and well-maintained setting, super-clean environment, and full/private amenities/accommodations. It is also close to Lexington, Charlottesville, the Natural Bridge, and near a beautiful mountain top tucked away from any traffic. Since it is located at the end of a private road in a remote area, it is very safe and quiet. Cooler (less-humid) in the summer and less 'buggy' than you would think. We liked the 'can-do' attitude of the energetic, friendly yet professional and thoughtful hosts (and staff). We spent a week to get away during our anniversary and it was perfect in many ways. This was a place to rejuvenate while getting pampered on a daily basis (not "fussed-over" - which I do not like). After walking, sight-seeing, or shopping all day, finding the hot tub out on the private balcony was a welcome site. Also, the room and bathroom are huge! With a late breakfast, wine and cheese in the afternoon, and supper scheduled around us, we were never inconvenienced (or hungry-at all!). Since these meals are included in the daily room price, you can't complain too much - if something isn't to your liking, just be civil about it and the hosts will do whatever they can (and more) to make things go your way. If you don't want to eat there that day, just let them know ahead of time and your meal cost will be deducted from your bill. All in all, we found our rest to be A-1 and better than ever imagined. Many thanks to Jamie and Tim (and your family)!

We traveled from Ct. for a wedding to House Mountain Inn. Jamie and her Staff were incredible. I highly recommend a wedding here. Jamie was incredibly organized. She worked right along side her staff and was always visible for any questions. The home cooked food was excellent and presented very well. The staff would always stop what they were doing to say hi.Extremely clean Inn. The guests loved the onsite fishing, and would come with their stories at breakfast. I can't say enough of how awesome all around this Inn is. Please go visit, you will have lasting forever memmories!

Room Tip: All the rooms are clean with incredible views

This is a beautiful, romantic, comfortable Inn. It has fishing and even horseback riding. The views take your breath away. All of that is superior! However, the food is overcooked, under heated and overpriced. I resent when there are just two of eating that the hotel automatically enters a 20% gratuity. We were not a group - there were two of us, and frankly the service was not worth 20%. Tonight I ordered Tomato and Mozzarella as the salad. I know that there are fresh tomatoes available, but they didn't use them. My friend had pan fried scallops and reported them as "just OK" not particularly succulent. It was disappointing, particularly given the beautiful location and the lovely aspects of the Inn.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have balconies and hot tubs - if you come in the Fall, Winter, or Spring - get a h...

For the third year in a row we recently were wowed by our family get together at the House Mountain Inn. As usual, the grounds, the Inn and the rooms were fresh and clean. The staff is as friendly and helpful as it is possible to be. During the past five years, we have visited 18 countries and at least 20 states. Our stay at House Mountain Inn ranks among the best.

Room Tip: Three or four rooms have private, outdoor hot tubs.

I can't believe I haven't left a review for this wonderful place yet. We stayed there twice and both times liked it a lot. The first time was after Christmas in 2008, and we came back last year (2011).

We found the place same romantic, same nice, and hosts same friendly, only trees by the pond grew up a little :-)

The greatest thing we like about this place is the atmosphere created both by the interior/design and the friendliness of hosts. Staying there is both like being cozy at home and at the same time having a great romantic getaway. The Inn offers enough privacy and peace for people who want to escape city fuss and buzz and have a relaxing quality time either with someone or just by oneself.

One of the coolest (and I don't mean temperature), features is the outdoor hot tub. Almost each room has one in the private patio. They are great way to relax. Both times we stayed here, we took the room with a tub.

When we had our vacation in 2008, we stayed in Big House Mountain room which was on the 1st floor. It was a great spacious room with a nice bathroom, hot tub outside and a fireplace inside. We loved it but wanted to try something different so this time (December 2011) we took a Green Hill Mountain room on the second floor. It's a bit smaller and has no sofa in it but we didn't miss that. We still had a hot tub in the patio and a fireplace in the room. These are 2 things I like most. The bathroom was nice as well, and clean. We had no complaints about cleanliness or services except one little bug... Well, actually we had several bugs- stinky bugs- visiting us during the stay. The staff said it was unfortunatelly that season... I'm sorry to say that but yes, we had to share our nice romantic room with bugs this time...

A view from both rooms was towards the forest. The Big House Mountain room is the corner room with a patio at the end of the house. There is a lawn stretching from the patio towards the forest there. We enjoyed little birdies playing on the lawn or visiting our patio when staying in that room. The Green Hill Mountain faces the slope of the hill with a forest.

The bed and pillows in Green Hill Mountain room were pretty comfortable and the bed size was large enough. I had some doubts when looking at the photo on the Inn's site but in reality the bed appeared to be larger than I was imagining. Oh, the covers are not the same color as the image shows but other than that- all is the same- very interesting cow-boy style decor, beautiful pictures on the walls.

One special feature the Inn had when we visited the first time in 2008 and which was almost gone this time (December 2011) were beautiful items of special ceramics- mugs and "Do not Disturb" signs with "House Mountain Inn" on them. We were told that someone bought them, and I was allowed to buy the last mug I found there. I sincerelly hope that they will get a new set of these great mugs and signs. They make evenings by the fireplace really special.

The food at the Inn's restaurant was always very good both for breakfasts and dinners, and we enjoyed cheese and wine tasting hours in the afternoons. We were allowed to bring cheese and wine to the room and enjoy it at our leisure. Same about dessert and coffee or tea. By the way, tea or coffee was always easily accessable for self-service at the lobby's "kitchen" area or at the wine bar.

The kitchen is equiped with a microwave and fridge, so guests can either keep some food cool or warm it up if they want to. Our hosts kindly put our last dessert in the fridge the morning we checked out, so that we could enjoy it and the last cup of hot coffeee after we come back from the ride to the top of the mountain.

The ride to the mountain top observation tower is one of the services the Inn offers. They have a forwheel for that. It was a fun trip, and the view that opens from the tower is gorgeous. I can only imagine how wonderful it is when trees are dressed in all fall colors. We visited in winter so no leaves... This had own advantage though. While driving up and down we could see through the trees and realize how steep the slopes really were.

We want to thank our host for that great ride.

One extra service we tried this time was the in room massage. It was an interesting experience.

Despite of some minor inconvenience because of stink bugs we truly enjoyed the stay and sure are planning to come back. We are going to check yet the other room next time!

I'll add some photos to the review so you can see things with own eyes.

We arrived after a long day driving down the Skyline Drive. We were greater by Jeff who informed we were he only guests that night and to treat it as our home from home. We did exactly that helped by a few glasses over very nice dry white wine and a really excellent meal cooked by Jeff. To keep it in the family breakfast was cooked for us by Carrie, Jeff's wife.
We had the Big House Mountain room. It is large with great king size bed, with large private deck with hot tub. Despite Jeff's assurances about the water temperature we did not make use of this facility, preferring supper and wine.
The overnight rain and thunderstorm cleared in time for us to appreciate the wonderful setting of the Inn.
In summary a great place to stay. Would we return; a definite YES.

Room Tip: Go for one of the rooms with king bed and Views over the valley to the front of the hotel.

Views you can't imagine! We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and a cheese platter. We enjoyed it out on the upstairs balcony. The owners' Golden Retriever kept us company. We enjoyed the snack while enjoying the view of the pond and twin peaks, the chirping birds, etc. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. We had an outdoor Jacuzzi tub - blissful! The food in the restaurant was sublime! We had a lovely family dinner. The next morning we had to leave very early and the proprietor made the extra effort to come in early and prepare us a fantastic breakfast! We have never stayed at such a peaceful place, nor have we had such attention given to details and great service. If I ever get the chance to visit the area again I would not hesitate to stay here!
