“great equine facility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

The Virginia Horse Center was designed by people who understand horse shows. The barns, show rings, parking, campsites, grazing areas and pathways between all the above are comfortable and convenient on foot and on horseback, even when hosting a large national level horse show. The natural beauty of the surroundings and views, especially from the dressage rings up on the hill, enhance the experience. It is our 'home' showground, but it compares favorably with facilities I have been to in Kentucky, Idaho and North Carolina.

“Showing Its Age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

On the plus side, VHC has wonderfully sized stalls, bathrooms with showers, several arenas with better than average footing. Though I didn't partake, I was happy to discover a different food vendor with some healthy choices. this is an improvement over the solitary array of fried foods as in the past.
However, I couldn't help but notice how much in need of sprucing up it now is. Fresh paint everywhere and circulation fans in the Coliseum and the East Arena would go a long to creating a fresh look and more comfort for spectators, vendors and competitors alike. In summer, it is not a pleasant place to be. The hot, humid air just sits. Likewise, in the chillier months, there is nothing to create an environment to attract outside viewers to their wonderful events.
This facility is a gem in the rough. With some polish, it could be returned to a premiere facility. Right now, it looks like no one seems to care.

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

As an avid horse lover, I've been to this facility several times. Always I've enjoyed the experience. When I was there as a rider years ago they were bedeviled by groundhog holes on the cross country course, with small warning flags all over the place. On my last visit I looked for the flags but didn't see any. Problem solved, I guess. I once saw a demonstration by Monty Roberts, the horse whisperer, as he worked with young, skittish horses. There is something for everyone in the horse world here. Great place!

“Beautiful grounds and competition areas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Very impressive rings and main ring. Staff doesn't return phone messeges, ... ever... Very disheartening, as I had called regarding lost and found items, golf cart rental, etc. and no call back.
Great that they are across the street from Dover Saddlery!

“Wonderful venue for horse shows”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

We were there for the USPC National Championships. Things were well run, well kept and it is easy to get around to the various arenas, several of which are covered. A
They also have a wonderful coliseum.
