“We Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

502 South Main is awesome. Russ and Mary Stuart, the owners, and hospitable and run a great B&B. From reservations online to check out, an A+++ experience. Beautiful, comfortable, clean and beautifully furnished rooms, modern marble bathrooms, fantastic breakfast and attention to every detail, including a fridge in your room stocked with cold sodas and a chocolate on your pillow at night.

We stayed at 502 South Main for three nights while on a college visit to VMI (Russ is an alumnus). We also arrived later than expected, and were greeted as road weary travelers should be, with cordiality. We were out during the daytime at the college events, and when we returned to our room in the afternoon, there was a plate of yummies awaiting us - sugar dusted walnut cookies one day, delicious chocolate coconut bars another. Breakfast included home baked hot cross buns and egg soufflé. Mary Stuart, who studied under a famous pastry chef in Georgia, is a great baker. Russ gave us great information about VMI and Lexington. Lexington is a lovely historic town - Stonewall Jackson is buried there and Robert E. Lee was college president at W&L - with good restaurants and cute shops. We loved the place and will return, once we lose the extra pounds. Thank you!

Room Tip: There are three rooms. We were three guests in two rooms - both very nice.

Visiting 502 South Main is like you're visiting an old friend -- from the moment I walked into the door, Russ and Mary Stuart made me feel at home.
I travel constantly for business, so staying at b-n-bs are a slice of heaven.
My room was beautifully decorated and the shower was huge (and had water pressure!). Lots of TV channels to choose from....and seamless internet coverage. It was difficult to leave my bed!
Just wished I could have stayed a third night to enjoy Russ and Mary Stuart's fine company (and delicious food.)
Such kind, caring hospitality. I can't wait to drive back!

Everything was wonderful! Will definitely return! Gracious hosts, fantastic accommodations, delicious breakfast! Perfect location, able to walk to shops and great restaurants. Mary and Russ offered some great dinner ideas! Enjoyed Russ's piano playing when we returned. Mary had left some lovely snacks and turned down our bed, we also enjoyed the complimentary frig items in our room.

If you want a first class experience with gracious hosts, great food, and a beautiful room in a period classic home in an charming historic village, then look no further. My room had luxurious linens on a perfect mattress with a large marble bath. Everything was spotless. I was offered a cup of tea with a plate of cookies when I arrived. My hosts, Mary Stewart and Russ, showed me to my spacious room with a mini fridge with soft drinks, bottled water and snacks (all complimentary). They shared some guidebooks and restaurant menus and were extremely knowledgeable about the area. The next morning I had an enormous and fabulous breakfast with muffins, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, stone ground grits, coffee, and orange juice. The truly wanted my visit to be perfect, and it was!!

This is the best B&B experience I've ever had. Russ and Mary Stuart, the owners, stayed up late for our 1AM arrival on a Friday evening (we were driving down from NYC), greeted us warmly and ensured we were situated comfortably. Mary Stuart is an outstanding chef, preparing outstanding breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday mornings (a delectable fluffy egg and cheese dish one day, pumpkin pancakes the next - each day with fresh fruit, yogurt, and home-made scones).

The house itself is lovely. The rooms are spacious, the comfortable beds envelope you, and the bathrooms (well, our bathroom at least) are large and modern.

I could go on, but suffice it to say that we felt at home, we felt relaxed, and we felt our hosts did everything they could to ensure a fantastic stay in Lexington. When we forgot a few clothes in the closet upon leaving, Mary Stuart even drove to meet us by the highway to return our items. That sort of effort is rare these days, and so much appreciated!

My husband and I spent one lovely night at 502 South Main. Our room was delightful--large, meticulously-maintained, and quiet. And Russ and Mary Stuart were wonderful hosts with a genuine desire to have their guests enjoy their time in Lexington. The location is super-convenient for walking into town for dinner or shopping. And you will relish the opportunity to walk after a tremendous breakfast!

Room Tip: I do not recall our room's name: canopied bed in blue, upstairs in a corner.
