“Nice educational park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Went for a short drive on a Sunday and ended up at the Battlefield. It is kind of out of the way to get to because you have to drive through a resdidential area but then there it is tucked away. Very nice area, clean and well kept. They have guided tours but we did our own thing. Would be totally awesome if they had a sound system that could enhance the walk. Nice clear paths, beautiful views of the river. the cemetary is so tiny but that is what makes it nice, only one grave is identified. Great safe place for a family to take a stroll and get some civil war education at the same time

“Civil War Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

Lots of work being done to the area. There is a Civil War cemetery that is still tended to by family members...pretty cool. Quiet, it is a bit of a hike from the parking lot, but worth it. Make sure to read the trail markers for the historical background

“Small, Compact Battlefield Worth A Short Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

This battlefield, site of a Confederate rout of Union forces on October 21, 1861, is worth a short visit. With an easy walk you get a view of the compact field of battle, where the various lines are explained by signs (and, on weekends, apparently, tour guides; one was finishing his tour when we arrived and he appeared committed to sharing the history of this site with those on his tour). In spring and summer, when the foliage is full, it can be hard to see the river without trekking down some of the paths, but this place is so compact you won't exert yourself to do so. Tip: Check out their website before visiting for a good video narrated by Roger Mudd that explains the history and significance of this early Civil War battle.

“Surprise! A battlefield "buried" in suburbia.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2009

Ball's Bluff Battlefield interpretive trail loop is .8 mi. A map and walking tour guide are located at the info kiosk area. We would have missed this had we not paid attention to the Civil War signs. It appears that the National Cemetery is not taken care of, sorry to say.
