“Easy, fun way to cross Potomac River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

White's Ferry is the longest running ferry on the upper Potomac linking Montgomery County, Maryland and Loudoun County, Virginia. It's family owned and operated, and costs $6.00 round trip. You drive your car right onto the ferry, which can hold about 15-20 cars at a time, you stay in your car during the five minute ride across, and then you drive off and go! It's quiet, relaxing, and fun, and you can watch the river while you're crossing. The waiting line to get on is not usually very long, but if you miss the ferry when you get there, the wait for the next trip is only as long as it takes to load up on the other side and then come back across. It's a lot faster than going all the way to Point of Rocks Bridge to cross the river! Even my dog enjoys this ferry! Highly recommended.

“More fun than a bridge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

For people who have never ridden a ferry, this is a short but fun little ride. It crosses the Potomac in a pretty, wooded area. The ferry follows a cable across the river, so you have a more secure feeling than with the "free floating" type of ferry. The people operating the ferry are businesslike, so don't expect a warm welcome or any type of narration as you go. On the downside, there are times when the ferry gets quite busy, and you may have to wait in your car for 10-20 minutes or more to get on board. Once there, the trip across the river is probably less than 10 minutes long.

“Scenic ride into history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

The putt-putt ferry ride takes you slowly across the flowing Potomac, with views that haven't changed much in three-hundred years. Either approaching the ferry landing or leaving it takes you through rolling hills and unspoiled farm land.

“an excellent alternative route”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

I have to stop by my company at Leesburg, VA and go to Laurel, MD for my customer meeting. By using the Google search, the morning commute with hectic traffic would go to 1.5 hours & more. My colleague suggested me to take White ferry (single trip $5) then from Rockville, MD continues by using new ICC way. Wow, my company picked up the toll cost, but I save the commute time by at least 1/2 hour.

“What a treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We did not get to cross on the ferry, but just seeing it was a great experience. Not many left like this, so it really is special.
