White's Ferry is just that...a ferry ride across the Potomac. It is a great short cut from Virginia to Maryland. There is a small shop and the staff is most friendly. The Ferry Operators are amazing, out in all weather. Hint: In real adverse weather you may want to call ahead to see if the ferry is running.
This is very convenient if you are going over to western MD. In addition its inexpensive and different than driving on the highway. Be careful of the spped cameras on the MD side.
Inexpensive, historical ferry to get from VA to MD. Fun way to cross the Potomac. Cost was $5 for one way, but worth it!
This is the only ferry still operating on the Potomac. Apparently there used to be more than 100. It is a nice drive from North Potomac, MD. Scenic, with some historic farms and buildings along the way. Might not be so great at night, as this road is two lane and winds a bit. The ferry is very efficient and you don't have a long wait. You are across the river in a flash. I will take this over the beltway, every chance I get.
If in Leesburg it is the fastest way to reach NW Montgomery County but also a good place to grab a canoe on a warm day and paddle around for a picnic. Try it out next Spring.
