“Nice spot for a picnic or some fishing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Not pretentious, just my style. HAve a picnic, rent a cnaoe or boat and do some fishing, enjoy God's creation in a laid back way not typical of northern VA.

“Ferry Ride Across Potomac”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

This passenger ferry has operated since the 1700s. Only $1 per person each way. Cars more. Glorious fall day, scenic countryside.

“Bucket list item completed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

A leisurely ride along some of Maryland's back roads, with stops at 'Civil War Trail' markers along the way, led us here. Since moving to WV 5 years, and being a professional America Civil War Era 'Living Historian', 'Tour Guide', and 'Performing Musicologist', I've wanted to experience this very famous ferry and local attraction for a long time. While the actual trip across the river was pretty short, it was a pleasant experience, especially with the car's convertible top down, and on a rare relaxing day off, the approximate 15-20 minute wait seemed short and was totally expected. Although apparently a regular commute for some people in the area, this was an experience that I can now cross off my 'Bucket List', plus it's not every day you can ride on a boat/barge/ferry named "The General Jubal Early!" Who of course was "Lee's Bad Old Man!"

“Commute across the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

The ferry is $5 one way or $8 round trip; the round trip can be used anytime. There used to be about 100 ferry crossings but this is the only one left. It is a shortcut from Leesburg (Loudoun County) across the Potomac into MD that saves you from having to go all the way up to Frederick or down the toll road to the beltway. It is mainly commuters in the morning and late afternoon, but it is fun to take if you are looking for a scenic drive or going for a bike ride.

The river is narrow here; the actual ferry ride only takes a minute. The wait comes if there are too many cars ahead of you in line. Call ahead in bad weather or after heavy rains so you don't go out of your way if they are closed, which is rare but happens.

“the only way to get across the river”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

this is just a ferry crossing, some people have left reviews "terrible" must have been expected something more. Until another bridge is built this is the only way to cross. Ain't no big deal.
I've used it probably 35 times.
