A leisurely ride along some of Maryland's back roads, with stops at 'Civil War Trail' markers along the way, led us here. Since moving to WV 5 years, and being a professional America Civil War Era 'Living Historian', 'Tour Guide', and 'Performing Musicologist', I've wanted to experience this very famous ferry and local attraction for a long time. While the actual trip across the river was pretty short, it was a pleasant experience, especially with the car's convertible top down, and on a rare relaxing day off, the approximate 15-20 minute wait seemed short and was totally expected. Although apparently a regular commute for some people in the area, this was an experience that I can now cross off my 'Bucket List', plus it's not every day you can ride on a boat/barge/ferry named "The General Jubal Early!" Who of course was "Lee's Bad Old Man!"
