“Food & Service have gone down hill; Just go for the German beer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Their Biergarten used to be one of our favorite outdoor spots in Leesburg. Simple German food, authentic German beers that are often hard to find, friendly service and (outdoors) cigar-friendly. Over the past couple years, service, food and atmosphere has steadily gone down-hill. The almost all-german-speaking-staff has been replaced with hispanic help, who more often than not appear to be more interested in watching soccer matches on the TVs (to which they hide the remote so you can't change the channel) than cooking and serving. I would not even rate the food as edible any more. Too bad to see what started out so good go bad so quickly.

“Still there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Met a friend for lunch. First the computer system was acting up and it took a bit to place our order. But the schnitzel sandwich was very good. The best part was the German beer on tap. The other two had the curry wurst and both said it needed more curry. Not on my list of must eat here places. But it was good.

“Great place for German beer on tap and a bratwurst”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

What really makes this place is the German beer on tap. It's a great place to meet up with friends. They have a nice deck to sit outside and enjoy a beer with German snack food like pretzels, beef or pork wursts. (They are even cigar friendly for those of you that enjoy a stogie with your beer.) During the cooler months you can sit inside and watch European soccer matches while sipping your Hefeweizen.

“Not all changes are good”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Having been fans from the days that Hamburg Donner operated out of a "restaurant on wheels" we were extremely disappointed. The guys that introduced the German version of the Turkish "Donner Kebab" to the area began with a great approach, an awsome dish and the best intentions in the world. What gave them a name allowed them to move into a permanent locale and intitially the "donner" was tops. Having lived in Germany for a number of years, we know what a "donner" is supposed to be like and inittialy they were a pretty close match.

So we, made it back for our favorite, "donner und pommes"! What a dissapointment! The meat was absent of flavor, the tzatziki had an almost invisible hint of garlic and the oil used to fry the pommes was probably a month old. No amount of paprika, salt nor pepper could fix the mess that they have made of what used to be an excellent dish.

IIt will be very difficult to convince us to return to this establishement unless they return to their roots and bring back the quality.

P.S. The beer as always, excellent but then again, it is impossible to ruin a good German beer!
