“A Rare Gemstone in the Blue Ridge Mountains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

In the cool, crisp air of the Blue Ridge Mountains, as we enjoyed the colors of the fall season, we came across the Olde Mill Resort, which harbors a hidden gem of a restaurant with a very unassuming name, called simply "Maples". After being welcomed by friendly, courteous staff, we were soon visited by the Executive Chef, Ed Badgett.
Following an engaging conversation about food and local wines, Chef Ed informed us that a number of items on his menu are grown/raised locally. He also mentioned that he has his own wine blend ....our first introduction to lhe local wines. It paired perfectly with the dishes we had that evening, the pork tenderloin and lamb osso bucco. Both the pork and lamb are locally raised, which is an important consideration for us. A memorable meal should always be followed by a tastful dessert. On this particular evening, we decided to follow Chef Ed's recommendations. For a light dessert we chose marinated berries, which are always available. Cheesecke choice of the evening was peanut butter with a chocolate cookie crust; both desserts we will remember as items we would like to order when we come again.
The restaurant has a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, with the option of outdoor dining on the large wraparound deck.
Dining at the Olde Mill Resort's 'Maples" Restaurant and meeting Chef Ed, was a such an enjoyable ending to our 4 day road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A return trip in the spring is being scheduled.

“Wonderful food, great ambiance, beautiful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011

Incredible food in a casual relaxing atmosphere. Either in the dining room or the bar, you are very comfortable in a great setting with beautiful views. The food is five star and the best in the area. We drove an hour to eat there and we will do it again.
