“Beautiful, classic course”

Challenging but fair, fantastic views of the surrounding area. The halfway house in great need of renovation and cleaning of rest rooms.

“No wonder it is free with the activities package”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

If you are an avid golfer, avoid playing the Old course. The scenery is nice, but since it is included free in the all-activities package, calling the pace of play a "snail's pace" is an insult to all snails. It's great if you are taking the family to play if you aren't regular golfers. But if you are looking to enjoy a competitive round with experienced golfers, play the Cascades.

“A Challenging Course”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

The course is very hilly with wide fairways and plenty of variety amongst the holes. The views throughout the course are wonderful.

“a really fun golf course”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

While Rees Jones has made a hash of other resort courses (like the Equinox in Vt), his work here is good, perhaps because he did not do very much to the course -- he added 9, 10, and 18, and changed 1 and 2. (He may have changed 6 -- old 5 -- I don't remember, and I think his 9 mimics an old hole whose green was too close to the highway for safety.) What is really interesting about the course is that the greens are now like true mountain course greens -- you have to read them carefully before putting, and so getting on in regulation does not assure a par. So the course is short, on interesting terrain, not so hard to get on the green in regulation (or whatever you normally do), and then fun to putt -- what could be better. It doesn't challenge you with hazards or length, it does challenge you to hit your best shot (sometimes from a sidehill or downhill lie), and then it challenges your putting. For a fun round of golf, what is not to like?
Plus, the golfhouse attendants are very helpful. For extra services, like shoe-shining or getting you a tee-off time ahead of a large party, a tip is appropriate.
