“Pricey but very nice ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

The Omni Homestead resort will put a heavy dent in your wallet, but it is a great experience. The inside and outside of the hotel are breath taking and the grounds rival those of Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, which is saying a lot. There are many activities to keep you busy all week, some of them are very relaxing while others are for the active. Prices for dining and shops are suited for the well to do. The room was very large and clean. Attention to detail on maintenance and cleanliness of the facility in general could be better and the Jefferson Springs "shacks" appear ready to collapse at any moment. Still, I do recommend this resort for special occasions as my overall experience was very positive. Remember to set aside a healthy budget for activities and dining. I recommend the unlimited activities package which will provide a wide array of activities and will also save you $35/person/day to eat breakfast in the main dining room.

Thank you for posting your review following you recent visit to The Omni Homestead. We are thrilled that you enjoyed our historic resort and grounds. Maintenance and cleanliness are top priorities and our new “Care Program” ensures each and every room is detailed and deep cleaned including furniture at least twice a year. We recently completed a $25 million renovation project of our historic resort and many exciting capital improvements are being planned for the near future. The Jefferson Pools are currently receiving some improvements in regard to painting and maintenance, and we are looking at a restoration program for these historic landmarks in the future. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again.

I had a conference at the Homestead and had styed there several times over the last 30 years and was pleasantly surprised to see that the standards have not changed since being taken over by the Omni Group. The staff was friendly and helpful , the food was very good and the sports facilities excellent. Will stay again.

This was our third visit in two years and we will be back - summer and winter. Might try fall this year yet. We visit only as a couple and this resort is excellent for us - so many quality facilities and activities. However, we can see that this is a fantastic resort for families. I would take my kids here anytime over the beach for the activities. Fine families here.

I took my daughters age 12 and 8 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Jefferson Pools to the lazy river to the spa. We will be going back. The food was good and the walk around was great. Rooms were pleasant and while we had a suite, I thought were roomy.

I love the Homestead. We had a family getaway for 4 adults and 3 kids. Booking was great and they were very helpful helping me get the room configuration that worked for us (a suite with a connecting double, so we could sleep 2 / 3 / 2). The scenery and the activities there are fantastic. We did shooting and the instructor was great with my three boys (two had shot before and one had not). We would definitely go back, but I do have some serious reservations...

So here is my issue:
1) I expected a higher quality of service given the room rates (spent over 6K)
2) There reservations systems for activities are terrible. They tell you that things are wide open and that you don't need to reserve, then there is a rush and everything is booked, then we show up anyway and nobody is there so we can go right in. This happened multiple times in the restaurants and for shooting. We did not do some things because we were told that they were full - I now doubt that they were.
3) The hotel is in need of repairs. It is a huge facility, but there were cracked/usafe bricks on several of the stairways and a lot of things were in need of paint. This is not true of the rooms, they were fine and is only the general facilities.
4) They had several private parties and blocked off large parts of the facilities in the evening. Definitely check about other events at the hotel and what will be blocked off before you book.

Room Tip: Check the events going on at the hotel when you book and find out what areas will be restricted and...

We very much enjoyed our 4 days at the Homestead and highly recommend it. I would have given it 5 stars except that there is some plumbing and air conditioning noise that comes with a hotel this old. We tried all the restaurants and enjoyed them. The Main Dining Room was charming and we enjoyed dancing to the live music and watching the children dance with their parents and grandparents. The pool was fun and we loved walking around the beautifully kept property. The highlight for us, though, was the wonderful front porch where we read and just enjoyed the scene.

For two days following a less than stellar stay at another SW Virginia property, we were absolutely "wowed" by The Omni Homestead. What a beautiful property and lovely staff. Our room was upgraded to a garden room with our own little patio to sit and read and enjoy some chilled wine all afternoon. We had planned to eat one night at the main dining hall and the next at either Sam Snead's of the Jefferson, but the food, service, ambiance, and value at the main dining room caused us to go there both nights. Although well off the beaten path, The Homestead was a perfectly wonderful retreat.

Room Tip: I doubt there is a bad or even average room in the place!
