Beware of being assigned "no view accommodations." Self parking is crowded and is long walk from Hotel. No shuttle service to parking lot if one chooses no valet service. Be prepared for pricey "resort fees," and recreation fees for almost everything. Food and food service personnel are excellent. There is friendly staff.

The grounds are very nice, there are a lot of activities available. The Bell staff was very friendly and helpful. The resort seems to be gearing towards families. I would have liked a nice adult outdoor pool close to the main building. Maybe I just could not find it. They did have a spa, which I did not participate. We had a top of the line room with a view in the tower historic building. It lacked a couple things I expect when paying $375 a night: no place in the bathroom to even put your toothbrush with a small stand alone vintage looking sink; shower/tub was old; no magnifying mirror; turn down service happened only one night with no chocolate, cookie or poem. The window view in the room would have been lovely, except the window was very dirty. The main dining room lacked any personality at all. Breakfast cost us nearly $75 for 2. I agree with many posts; go to the Country Café down the road. We had a great breakfast there for $15. We chose dinner at The Waterwheel instead of the hotel and are very happy we did. I hope this lovely historic hotel can be brought back to compete with the best. It has a way to go.

The staff at the Homestead could not have made our stay more comfortable and relaxing. It was a memorable experience we hope to repeat. We are used to exceptionally good service and the Homestead exceeded our expectations.

We have been going to The Homestead for over 10 years. The first time it was magical. Then through the transfer of the property to various owners there were a couple of years where we just didn’t want to go, even though we love the property. Last year we went on a Groupon Special as the property was being taken over by Omni. We loved our room and stay last year and saw the exciting changes taking place with the spa and restaurants so we decided to go for our anniversary and are so happy we did. This time: Our check in was quick and we were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in early even though we had packed a bag to use our Day Passes for the Spa Garden and Aqua Thermal Suite while we expected to wait for our room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is nice to see so many familiar faces and yet the new people were also very friendly and helpful. Our room was a bit smaller than the last time, but was still very bright, clean and comfortable. We enjoy looking out toward the Casino Restaurant and grounds. The whole facility is still beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. We love the history of this building so the crooked steps from years of settling add to the charm as far as we are concerned. If you are a person who only wants new and pristine, perhaps a historic property is not for you. Activities: We were on the Stay and Play plan and played The Old Course two times. The staff is still so friendly and helpful there. Practice balls are included in the package. We got on the course early each day and the play was at a good pace. The course is in excellent shape. If you choose a package that includes activities, make sure you check to see which activities are included. Some may still require a fee and if you haven’t made reservations ahead of time, you may miss out on what you really want to do. We enjoyed tea each day as many people did. We did not have a problem finding a seat in The Great Hall, but you can take your tea out to the porch. If you don’t want to stand in a long line wait 15 minutes. It seems like there is a big crowd that arrives when it first starts. My husband & I went down about 3:30 every day and did not experience long lines. The Spa Garden and Aqua Thermal Suite was more crowded than we expected. We were able to get lounges although not by umbrellas which we would have preferred. My husband is a melanoma survivor so we try not to sit directly in the sun when we are outside. There were people sitting in lounges near umbrellas and the umbrellas were not raised. We did not ask, but perhaps attendants could move umbrellas for those who want them. Some people came in and there were no lounges left. Since you have to pay extra whether with day pass or treatment, it seems like there needs to be a way to control crowds in this particular pool. We did not stay as long as we would have liked because of the situation. Meals: We ate at Rubino’s before we checked in. We showed up at 11 AM and they don’t serve lunch until 11:30 AM. Claudia told us not to worry that they would accommodate us and they did. We had a lovely lunch on the balcony and it was served by 11:20 even though we told her we could wait. We had a wonderful dinner at The Main Dining Room for our anniversary. We sat next to the dance floor and enjoyed dancing as well as watching grandchildren dancing with their grandparents and parents. It’s so nice seeing families teaching their children etiquette. We watched The World Cup the next afternoon in Jefferson’s Bar and had a nice lunch. That evening we ate at Jefferson’s Restaurant with good friends. The Shrimp & Grits, Pork Chops and Trout Piccata were wonderful. The Honey Stung Brussel Sprouts were amazing! Special touches: After I made my reservations online, I called to ask some questions and make dining reservations and tee times. I learned more about purchasing $100 dining credits for a 15% discount so I looked at menus and estimated how much to purchase. We only went over that amount by $25 so it was a nice little savings and they just added the overage to our bill at the end. I mentioned we were coming for our 39th anniversary and there was obviously a special note made on our reservation. We were pleasantly surprised by a bottle of champagne & chocolate covered strawberries being delivered with a note from Tonya Ryder, the Omni Loyalty Ambassador. It was so nice to come back to the room in the evening to see our bed turned down and complimentary bottles of water delivered as well as trash thrown away and new shampoo and conditioner delivered. We are very pleased by the changes that the Omni has made. Jefferson’s is a nice addition. For those of you who miss the Presidents’ portraits in the old Presidents’ Lounge, you can see them in the Lobby Bar now. We like that this is a wonderful family resort. There are so few places in urban areas where children can run through the grass, play croquet, badminton, and roast marshmallows. We enjoyed seeing families enjoy the resort. They were well behaved and we never felt that they were getting in the way of our romantic weekend. We stayed in the West Wing and didn’t hear any noise at all. We are happy that so many of The Homestead traditions are still there. We will definitely be back!

The previous review is extremely well written and hits on a lot of the feedback from my recent week at The Homestead. First, the good...I've been coming here for 20+ years, and I can say with certainty the facility/grounds have never looked better. I was particularly impressed with the quality and diversity of the landscaping throughout the property - beautiful flowers and shrubs, well maintained, professionally mulched, etc. Really a site to see. As noted in previous reviews, the upgraded outdoor pool facilities are great, though the loud Top 40 music pumping at the pool was a bit much.

The big letdown, however, continues to be the dining options onsite. From the lower-priced Casino Restaurant to the Jefferson Dining Room, they simply haven't gotten this right. The service at the Casino was particularly disinterested/disjointed. Our night there was asking the server to call the Resort Shuttle to take us back to our accommodation and the answer was "you can go ask my manager to do that." Will do, ma'am. I seem to recall the Trout Sandwich as a highlight of the menu, served on a ciabatta-type flatbread. Now it's served on a lifeless sub roll seemingly straight out of a bag. Hopefully Omni is taking an iterative approach to get The Homestead back to a top-notch place - now that the physical plant is outstanding, it's time to get a dining program that is worthy of it's surroundings.

I took my wife to The Homestead to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I had been there before, but she had not. We ended up having a wonderful, relaxing weekend and she loved the resort as much as I did. The best surprise was when a waiter showed up to our room with a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries for our anniversary, compliments of the resort. I don't even remember telling them it was our anniversary. First class facilities all the way. We'll be back to hopefully celebrate many more anniversaries and other occasions.

Room Tip: I think all of the rooms are good.

Some negative reviews concerned us that the Homestead would be a dilapidated shell. It's actually a pleasant surprise and a remarkably solid family get-away.

Staff is friendly and gracious throughout, from valet to front desk to bell hops. We had a renovated room in the tower. It was well appointed. Pool is naturally warmed to 85 degrees--kids loved it. Water slides were great, as was the lazy river. There's also a hot tub.

Tea is served daily. it's basic (a few finger sandwiches, basic scones and cookies, hot and iced tea) but a welcome snack for the kids.

i would highly recommend the waterfall nature walk. It sounds perfunctory but it's a delight. Terrific guide, amazing cascades, and totally engaging.

Food service seems to be a weakness. In high season, a resort needs to have a full menu available at the pool midweek. The Sam Snead Tavern underwhelms.

If you need to get away with the kids, it's lovely. A beautiful drive, tons of activities, friendly staff, and well-tended grounds. Sign us up for a repeat visit.
