“First Class all the way”

Traveled here with a friend who is in the Owners Club. WOW. Individual homes, three bedrooms, three and 1/2 baths. Two levels of screened porches running the length of the house and around the side. Bottom area also contained a hot tub.
The resort provides van transportation around the property-all you have to do is call and bingo they arrive. The grounds are breathtaking, the activities endless, the southern charm never ending.
The best is BRIAN the tour guide for the Gorges Hike. He was knowledgeable, charming, humorous and made the hike the best part of the trip!
The SPA is heavenly.

Great Hotel, amazing food and service and location! The spa was great, food was top notch and grounds are perfect and plenty to do. Would go back no problem. Had a great trip. Rooms were excellent and staff was great and helpful. Great activities and plenty to do. Check out the hot springs to swim in and loved it. Go play golf or mountain bike or hike--they have it all and more then you can believe.

This grand old resort has seen a lot of new amenities but the overall grandeur and ambiance has diminished. Omni needs to take some care with the basics. The service when you check in is great but the dining service is very very slow.

Thank you for visiting The Homestead for a meeting. We recently completed a $25 million renovation to our historic property, and exciting plans are being made for more restorations. We suggest you return in the future for a relaxing long weekend or vacation and allow us the opportunity to provide you with a truly great Homestead experience.

When we need to get away from the chao of the DC area, we take a long weekend at The Homestead. We have been doing this for almost 40 years. It is just like 'going to our Southern home.' There are so many interesting activities, that we can do us much or as little as we want.

The Homestead is a beautiful property nestled in the mountains of Bath County, VA. Certainly there is a lot of history here, but I don't think the historical value is equal to the value of the accommodations. When paying +$400/night, one would expect proper lighting in the room, a tub that drains and wallpaper that's pristine. Instead we had a room where there was no light source for half the space, wallpaper peeling in the bathroom and we stood in several inches of water when we showered. We were convinced that we got the less than stellar room because we used a Living Social deal - we could not have afforded the stay otherwise. All in all the stay wasn't horrible. We got fantastic (yet tragically overpriced) massages, had a fun trail ride on horseback, played games in the Downtime room and had some good (though again, overpriced) meals. The best meal we had, however, was in the Village of Hot Springs at a dive called Lindsay's Grill and Bar. I highly recommend eating there over any of the restaurants in the resort. The staff at the Homestead was top notch and the scenery is breathtaking. We were utterly disappointed overall and would be hard-pressed to recommend this property to our friends. Would we go again? I highly doubt it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay at our historic resort. We value guest comments and view them as a way to improve the guest experience. We regret that your accommodations did not meet your expectations. We have recently completed a $25 million restoration project and plans are underway for further restoration in the future. It is good to know that you enjoyed your massage, horseback ride, DownTime, and the Southern hospitality of our staff. We do hope that you will consider a return visit in the future.

The homestead is a very nice historic property that has a lot to offer. I see a lot of reviews on here claiming that it is old, needs restoring, etc. The truth is that yes it is old and yes it could use some restoring in areas but do not go there if you have are wanting a ritz carlton like property! This is a historic property that has tons of charm and allows you take a step back to live in the past. All in all our experience was great but I do have a few tips.

The room was wonderful, we had stayed in a king size room with a view of the property. It wasn't huge but it didn't need to be. My only complaint was that the A/C did not work at all. We kept the windows open the entire weekend. We arrived late Friday and had dinner at Jeffersons...the food was excellent and the atmosphere was casual. We did wait 20 min for a drink but they provided them free because of this. This was our favorite meal of the trip. Saturday morning we had breakfast in our room and it was excellent. We then went to the spa which was extremely nice and very relaxing. I would definitely recomend checking the spa out. There are lots of things to do there. After the spa we roamed the property and had lunch at Jeffersons. We roamed until afternoon tea at 3pm. The tea was a little dissapointiong, the food was not the best but it is a nice tradition. That evening we had dinner in the main dining room. This was our least favorite experience. The room is dark and musky and the menu is nothing to be proud of. I ordered a beef short rib that had to be atleast 50% fat and it cost me $34. I would not return to the main dining room without a menu revamp and possible renovation. The next morning we had breakfast in our room again because we didn't want to visit the main dining room again. We checked out and had a great experience and then went shooting. The shooting course is world class and was a great experience.

All in all our stay was awesome. Yes...this place is extremely expensive so if you're looking for a bargain vacation this isn't it. All in all we spent about $1800 for 2 nights. You will not enjoy your stay if you fixate on the cost but if you can get past this you will have a great time

Thank you for sharing your observations and suggestions following your visit to our historic resort. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your dinner in our newest restaurant--Jefferson’s, breakfast in your room, the Shooting Club, and your time in our newly renovated Spa. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the air-conditioning in your room and it is disappointing to read that you did not enjoy the Dining Room, which is very historical and popular with many of our guests. Be assured your comments have been shared with our Culinary Team so we may make improvements. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon so we may provide you with another awesome experience.

The front desk staff is very rude. Even if you request early check-in, don't expect it. They will then check-in other people in front of you and you will not get into your room when expected. Due to this issue, I missed the wedding ceremony I needed to attend, which was the whole reason for my visit in the first place.

Please accept our sincere apology for not giving you a Warm Welcome and for the delay at the Front Desk when you were checking in. We hope that you will be able to return in the future so we make amends and regain your goodwill and confidence.
