“A Place Apart”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

My wife and I recently spent a night at the Homestead. We were on our way to central Virginia, so didn't spend a lot of time on the property, but what we experienced was impressive. It's a beautiful hotel, and includes a variety of fine resort activities. We only availed ourselves of dinner, but it was outstanding. My only complaint was the coffee maker in our room didn't work.

The Homestead has a long history and is an impressive facility. The service was good and the rooms comfortable, but not extraordinary. We ate in both the main dining room and the Jefferson Grill, and the food was excellent. The site in the Virginia mountains is beautiful. This is a full service resort, so if you are not interested in doing a lot of "resort things" as we are not, this may not give you a lot of value for the money.

This is an excellent resort in a beautiful location. I just spent 3 days there with friends and absolutely had a blast. Beautiful views of mountains and good golf courses around. The staff at this resort made me feel like I am a king.

This hotel is awesome and the food is outstanding. It’s in a beautiful setting and the grounds are very well cared for. It seems like they thought of everything to keep guests happy right down to the fire pit and lawn games. I was there on business but i would return for a vacation.

the location of the hotel is beautiful and the hotel has some wonderful history. Most of the staff is friendly and accommodating. the check out was not on the same service. The hotel is run down but you can still see how beautiful it must have been long ago. Most of the chairs in the lobby are stained. But they do have a live piano player at night. most if not all the rugs are stained or dirty. If this doesn't bother you then go. I would skip the carriage ride. We thought we were going to go around the grounds but went into the woods. There were no views except trees. For 199.00, I would skip this! It was boring! I wanted to see the town or the grounds. too bad!!

Thank you for visiting The Homestead and for posting your review. Please accept our sincere apologies for not providing with you a sincere fond farewell upon your departure. We also are sorry that your carriage ride through the woods did not meet your expectations. We have recently completed a $25 million renovation to many public space areas, restaurants and our spa, and more restoration is planned for the future. We hope that we will be welcoming you back sometime soon.

What a wonderful surprise! I belong to an organization of ladies that meets once a year in various locations throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The location of this trip was selected last year for this years retreat. Having our retreat in the fall made this trip spectacular. The fall leaves were at their peak and the mountain views breathtaking. All of the hotel staff and accommodations were excellent. Don't forget to treat yourself to the Spa and the Jefferson pool, what a wonderful weekend!

My wife and I have been looking forward to staying at the Homestead for 5 years. We finally decided to do it despite the cost. When we arrived at our room, it was cold and the heater would not work. It was suggested that a space heater be used. A $400 a night room should be perfect upon arrival. We changed rooms and then the following morning the coffee maker did not work. We definitely overpaid for this room. We will not stay here again.
