We have been dining at the Charcoal Kabob in Herndon (http://charcoalkabobhouse.com/) since the original location opened (more than 15 years ago) and we can't say enough great things about the food - it is just simply delicious. It doesn't matter if you order the charcoal grilled kabobs, the curries, or the karahies - you will not be disappointed. We challenge you to find a local restaurant that can provide a better tasting, more authentic Afghan meal for the price!
The Arghandiwal brothers opened this restaurant in April, 2000 (they originally had a smaller space in the same K-Mart shopping center). We eat here regularly and generally order kabobs or curries (both are delicious). The Kabobs are available in various flavors like lamb, boneless chicken, beef, keema, vegetable, and fish - plus they offer larger combo kabobs (such as the lamb, chicken, & keema 'Super' kabob). The chicken based curries are offered in several varieties such as Chicken Curry, Chicken Jalfarazi, and Chicken Haleem. All kabobs, curries, and karahies are served with tandoori bread (naan), yogurt sauce, basmati rice, vegetable side, and a small salad (consisting of lettuce, cucumber, and tomato). They recently added low carb meals, wraps, and gyros to the menu (we haven't tried them yet but we have to assume that they are delicious as well).
Not sure what to order? Our favorites are the Lamb Kabob, the Boneless Chicken Kabob, and the Chicken Haleem - all with chickpeas on the side. Order anything off the menu - you will not be disappointed!
