We stayed 4 nights. . The home has a great deal of its original charm as does the furnishings. If you want modern, this is not the place. The owner, Wayne, is a delightful guy and everyone working there is very nice. Unfortunately for us, Wayne serves only 2 breakfast items on alternate days. Stays longer than 2 nights is like groundhog day if you know what I mean. Older part of town is walkable. The arboretum at James Madison U. is a short drive and worth seeing. Shenandoah Natl. Park is about a 30-40 minute drive. Last thing--if you are a light sleeper, East Market St. is a major truck route to I81. Can be VERY noisy early AM.

Thank you for the comment, interesting review and observations. We do have two very popular and oft requested Signature "Breakfasts to Remember" that return guests expect and request. That was the case in this instance, but actually we have 5 signature breakfasts that you can see on our website. We inform the guests the night before as to the menu for the following morning and invite all to request something different. One is our Eggs Benedict~Stonewall Style using the delicious locally produced Virginia Country Prosciutto Ham with a side of Stonewall Jackson's Hash which is freshly made from a Civil War period recipe used by the Chuck Wagons of the Stonewall Brigade. All is made with local fresh produce and ingredients, (Virginia's Finest) where possible. (Secret) one of the ingredients is local Scrapple; but I buy the Andouille Sausage from New Orleans. LOLO.
The other is our French Toast made using a French Croissant and a special "wash", served with light and fluffy scrambled Eggs Tarragon. Sides are fresh Virginia's Finest crisp bacon and a delicious Cranberry-Apple Caramelized Chutney to top the toast if you wish or eat as a dessert. All "Breakfasts to Remember" are served with fruit, juice, Colombian Stonewall Coffee or your choice of tea.
You can see the recipes for all our breakfasts on our website. Have a look! Our Chili , sometimes served as a side in the winter) was picked up by the National Media Folks, you just have to come and do the Stonewall Jackson Experience first hand. It is "A Night's Delight And a Breakfast to Remember" all done by the owner and the Interning Stonewall Jackson Hospitality Team! You can see them on our website too. See you soon for good food, fun, in our lively Historic District in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Remember too, Virginia is for Lovers, so bring your romance with you we will provide the venue !!!
