“Another Great Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

My wife and I always plan our routes south to ensure a peaceful stop in Harrisonburg at Joshua Wilton House; most recently, for our sixth stay. Dinner, as always, was excellent and breakfast the next morning was superb. Everyone is pleasant, professional, welcoming and strives to make your stay something special.

We spent the weekend in Harrisonburg at the Joshua Wilton House. There are two sides to the Inn, the hotel portion, and the restaurant. This review covers primarily the Inn.

We were warmly greeted, given a brief tour to get acclimated, and shown to our room. Furnishings were Victorian, and appropriate for the room. The bathroom was fine for an older Inn. Ceilings are high, and there was a brick fireplace run in our room, but no actual fireplace. There was a small, 12-14 inch television in our room, but it was nearly impossible to watch the World Series or football due to the size.

The bed was pretty hard, so sleep quality was lacking. As an older Victorian Inn, there are lots of creaks and noises in the night as people move about. The room above us had someone that was quite active between 1 and 2am, with lots of movement back and forth, so it was tough to get back to sleep once I had been awakened.

Breakfast was great. We enjoyed the fruit, granola, and yogurt parfait each morning. The main dish was tasty as well, but your meal is pretty much preselected unless you indicate that you have a dietary issue.

Service by all of the staff at the Joshua Wilton House was great. They are warm and seemed to care about the experience of their guests.

We also had dinner at the Inn, and they nailed it. Very good food and service to match.

We stayed in room 2 which was small, bland and the antique furniture was in rather shoddy condition. The room had no tv and the bathroom had not been updated. The food in the dining room was not very good. The steak was difficult to cut and the au gratin potatioes were overcooked and hard. The meal was almost as much as the room ($150.) Breakfast the next morning was nicely done and tasted good. The staff were the best part of the hotel. They are very friendly and helpful. The location is close to restaurants and the university.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room #2. Check to see which rooms have tv sets.

The Joshua Wilton House is a true gem in the college town of Harrisonburg. The atmosphere, detailed rooms, delicious included breakfast, excellent location and warm hospitality, make it a wonderful choice when visiting James Madison University. This is my second visit and I was not disappointed. I think what makes the JWH so special is the staff. Whitney, Karen and Jessie all treat the guests with such attention and care .I can't wait to go back again soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in room Three ...it was cozy and only had one window for those you like a dark room for sl...

Went with my mother and GF. Had a wonderful meal and time. Great staff. Loved the mushroom bisque with Morels and my GF loved the salmon. Sooo Good! Can't wait to go back with my family.

Would recommend for romantic or good family meal. Did not stay in the rooms.

Lovely inn with even more lovely staff. Service was always friendly and accommodating. The intimate and comfortable setting made us feel like we were staying in someone's home. The location of the inn is terrific. It is roughly 3 blocks from all of the shops and restaurants on S Main. We'll definitely stay again.

Joshua Wilton was delightful. We stayed in Room 5, which was bright, cheerful, and comfortable. Our breakfast was absolutely amazing. Everyone there - the young woman who greeted us Saturday afternoon and served our breakfast Sunday morning and both the hostess and bartender who were working Saturday evening - were super polite and friendly. The inn is beautiful; the front porch was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay.
