“A great place to stay if you are in the area.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

My wife and I stayed at this hotel at the beging of our vacation stay in Virginia. It is a very nice new property. Right off of the I- 81 exit by the university. The room was nice. The only thing it lacked was a refrigorator/microwave., which they do not have in there newer properities. The front desk was very helpful & the complamentary breakfast was very good. It was a nice stay.

This hotel is ok, I've stayed at dozens of Hamptons. The rooms were clean and comfortable. A/C and wireless worked fine. What I would expect from a Hampton Inn. The staff was extremely courteous at the front desk. A few restaurants are nearby for your dining pleasure.

Didn't expect an economy hotel. Good service Clean room Standard hot breakfast, bu no refrig, no microwave. Everything was minimal. ie: One cup coffee maker, smallest soap and toiletries I've seen, hard beds. Not a fan of heavy bedspreads without blankets.

Room Tip: Economy hotel good for one or two nights stay.

Thank you so much for staying at the Hampton Inn Harrisonburg - University; and thank you for taking the time to post a review on your experience with us. My true apologies that you weren't satisfied with the comfort and quality of your guest room. Here at our property the rooms do not have microwaves or refrigerators in them but we do have them available on request with the front desk. The toiletries, coffee makers and Hilton Sweat Dreams Mattresses by Serta are all brand standards with Hampton Inn Hotels.

Thank you again for staying with us and I do hope to serve you in the near future.

We live in the UK and were holidaying in the USA for 8 days. We deliberately chose to stay at this hotel because its internet description stated that it had coin-operated laundry facilities. So we were extremely disappointed having arrived at the hotel to learn that it did not have any such facilities. However, the hotel receptionists were very helpful and said we could use the facilities at a nearby hotel called the Candlewood Suites and that these would be free. We took advantage of this offer – it was our bad luck that one man was using all three washing machines at the Candlewood Suites and so we had to wait 30 minutes for one to become available.

Our room (348) was very spacious and comfortable. The room had a fridge, microwave, individual cup coffee maker and a large flat screen TV. The air-conditioning was very efficient but a little noisy – we usually turned it off at night. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very deeply.

The shower/bathroom was very good though the changing of towels was variable – once one was changed but not a second. Also, on one occasion, our coffee was not replenished.

Breakfasts were excellent. The breakfast area was very spacious, though largely wasted at other times. There was plenty of fresh cut fruit, yoghurts, pastries, muffins, bagels, fruit juice, waffles, hot food and coffee. Coffee at breakfast was always hot and there was a choice of regular, robust (excellent) and decaffeinated. The hotel had coffee available 24 hours a day. However, having tried it on three occasions (and on the last occasion trying all three types), we found it was always cold to lukewarm. We complained about it on the last occasion to the receptionist but she did not appear particularly concerned. The cold/warm coffee was disappointing because surely the staff should know how long their coffee stays sufficiently hot and be proactive in replacing it (or simply re-warming it).

The business centre at the hotel was good. We could check up on the latest British news though found that access to one legitimate website was blocked by the hotel computer security system.

Unlike another Hampton Inn at which we stayed during our holiday, this one did not seem to have any free cookies at reception.

There are several restaurants within easy walking distance (10-15 minutes), such as Ruby Tuesday, Bravo and Red Lobster. Bravo, an Italian restaurant, is highly recommended. The hotel also provides a double sided sheet listing restaurants and describing how to drive to them, though there is no map.

The hotel is ideally located for the Skyline Drive and Civil War battlefields at New Market and Fredericksburg.

Like another hotel (different chain) at which we stayed during our holiday, we found that both room keys stopped working when we returned to our room on the afternoon after our second night. We were surprised as we had pre-paid for the room months in advance. No explanation was given by the receptionist who claimed that it probably was due to a person mistakenly entering that we were staying for two nights instead of three. As we had booked and pre-paid on the internet, we found this explanation hard to believe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and highly recommend it. However, they could easily make significant improvements by making sure their coffee is always hot and tightening up on their room servicing! They also need to remove the internet description about the hotel having coin-operated laundry facilities – we were not the first to expect to use these non-existent facilities.

Thank you so much for staying at the Hampton Inn Harrisonburg - University in July, 2011.

Thank you so much for your feedback about your experience with us. We have addressed the issue with Hilton and the posting of coin laundry on our website; and we do apologies about the false information. I can understand how frustrating that must have been for you, to have to go to another hotel to do your laundry.

Thank you for taking the time to recoginize our team in the great service they provided and also informing us on areas we need to improve. Your feedback really helps us better serve you and other guests in the future.

Thank you again for staying with us and I do hope to serve you in the near future.

We were on our way home and just decided to stay in Harrisonburg. Several restaurants close and I have never had a problem with Hampton Inn. Although they were nearly sold out, they found us a room and we were settled in in minutes. The room was small but clean and VERY comfortable. Breakfast was great as usual. The pool was small but handy.

We stayed here during our weekend visit to Massanutten. We purchased the water park package and stayed in a studio king non-smoking room. The room was located on the 1st floor looking out onto a service road/alley. Since we are part of the Hilton Honors program, I was disappointed with the location.

The room fit our needs since we checked in at 6 pm and were out by 11 am. The hotel offers free paking, a free hot breakfast buffet, a business center with 2 computers and a printer, a small fitness room, and an outside pool (closed for season).

The location was perfect ... off I-81, close to James Madion University & Massanutten. I would stay here again if the price was right.
