Room is very outdated and dirty. Wall paper was stained and peeling back. Tub in the bathroom was greasy on the bottom.

My husband and I recently spent an overnight on the way home from the North Carolina mountains. The Ramada is an older two-story facility with outside entrances and no elevator. Located near the highway, you can hear the road noise, but running the HVAC fan created enough white noise that we didn't notice the traffic. The room had been remodeled with new up-to-date furnishings, separate vanity area with sink and generous counter, and a bathtub with a curved shower curtain rod. The t.v. was old (not flat screen). Although the room was very clean, the shower area in the bath had mold on the ceiling; probably due to a non-operative exhaust fan. (When we checked out, the receptionist asked how our stay was and if there was anything the Ramada could do to improve the room. We mentioned the ceiling mold and non-operative ceiling fan and the receptionist made a note of it.) Continental breakfast consisted of hard-boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, french toast, yogurt, pastries, cold cereals, juice, and coffee. Both check-in and check-out were fast, efficient, and pleasant. Note: it's just a few steps across the parking lot to the Cracker Barrel next door...a plus for weary travelers who don't want to drive to a restaurant at the end of a long travel day.

When I made my reservation two months prior to this stay I was not told that there would be an upcharge for this stay because of local activity. I stay here each time I am in the area and NOBODY informed me of an upcharge due to some local bash. This adds to my costs of the trip and in general makes me not want to stay there for fear of some othe local gouge. I have written a complaint letter to the corporation and to the state about it. The check in girl was polite but did not offer any consideration. I do not fault her.

No frills, but clean and pleasant staff. Bed was comfy. Prices were doubled due to JMU family weekend.
