We (2 couples, related) went to Hampton, VA for our first Parent's Weekend at Hampton University. We were exhausted, and while the men installed a new computer for the freshman, the girls went to check into Magnolia House. The home is a jewel, and without the stuffy feel of a living museum; we immediately felt welcome and relaxed as if we were home. After a tour of the home, we went to our beautiful rooms. They are tastefully decorated, and terry robes and slippers for your use during your stay is a nice touch that also emphasizes that you are at home, get comfortable! We went to sit on the magnificent porch and enjoy the afternoon sunshine, and after several glasses of wine, delicious (and unexpected!) appetizers from Joyce, we had the most perfect afernoon, talking and laughing, just enjoying our surroundings (the neighbors later told Joyce that her guests were really enjoying themselves, and we were!). After a wonderful dinner at a restaurant recommended by Joyce, we retired to our bedrooms. My husband and I had the best rest ever, better than at home! Joyce cooked a wonderful breakfast which took into account special dietary needs. We truly felt like beloved family. Happily, we need to return to Hampton over the next 4 years, and we intend to stay with Joyce and Lankford whenever we come here. The other couple, who had never had a B&B experience, also plan on staying at Magnolia House when they next visit the Williamsburgh area. It truly is the best!
