I had the pleasure of staying at the Embassy Suites on Hampton Road in April of 2012. The hotel is very similar to every other Embassy Suites I have stayed at, which means it has the ideal layout and excellent amenities. I was already booked into another hotel (see my review of the Extended Stay) and had to get out of it because it seemed like a health hazard. I was able to get in at the Embassy Suites due to a last minute cancellation, although the room rate wasn’t within government per diem. The reservation desk said I could talk to the General Manager to try and work out government rates but he had already left for the day. I asked my administrative assistant to call him back the next day and negotiate the government rate for my visit (I was working out at Langley AFB). My admin called back and worked out the rates with the GM, Derek Patterson and I am so thankful!
Everything about the room was perfect. A/C worked great, I was on the second floor and it was nice and quiet. Sheets were nice, bed was AMAZING (very important when you are on three weeks of business travel), towels were clean and there were plenty of them, coffee was amazing and somehow I ended up with complimentary internet access. I never did the breakfast but I did visit the bar a couple of times and the bartender made the best cosmos I have ever had! The manager’s reception daily was great, good snacks and drinks right after a long day at work. The hotel was very clean and every single member of the staff that I spoke to was very pleasant and friendly. Because my visit was so long I had to do laundry mid way through and the front desk had plenty of quarters for the machines. The laundry room was clean and had detergent and softener you could purchase. The machines were really fast too! Another big plus: there’s a coffee shop in the hotel with Starbucks coffee!
Of course I have to give a little constructive feedback or no one will believe my review is real! I have only two complaints: I had one day where housekeeping took my dirty towels out but forgot to replace them. When I called the front desk and told them they had someone at my door with clean towels in a matter of minutes. There were also a couple of days where housekeeping forgot to empty my trash cans – not a major problem at all just an observation. One final thing: if you order room service there is already and 18% gratuity included! I tipped the lovely lady who brought my meal another $5 but didn’t realize until after she left that it was already included. No biggie – it was still worth it!
I need to come back out to this area in June for another three week trip – I really hope I get to book this hotel again!!
