“Perfect Weekend Escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2006

The Hummingbird Inn is located in Goshen Virginia - which is about 3 miles from Goshen Pass (the most beautiful place in the world).
We stayed the weekend and had a delightful time. The Inn was beautifally decorated in different themes - I loved the nautical theme of the more formal living room - very tasefully done without overwhelming the visitor with anchors, life preservers and ship models. I really felt like we were sitting in the living room of a Brittish Commodore. The more rustic "family room" was a great place to gather for wine and board games. The sleeping rooms very spacious and comfortable. The furniture was comfortable and elegant. Although we were there for a winter weekend, it was obvious that great care has gone into the landscaping and layout of the grounds. The food was very good. Imaginative, beautifully presented - and most important - it was delicious!

I can't think of anything the owners could have done to make us more comfortable - or to have made us felt more welcome. I would definitely stay there again. I would also recommend the Hummingbird to anyone looking for a wonderful weekend escape.

*One word of caution* - Be aware before you go that the Inn is located close to a railroad track. We stayed two nights but only heard trains go by on the first night. This may be a problem for some, but for us, it just added to the charm and ambience - taking us back to a time before automobiles when folks used to venture to Goshen, arriving by train, to spend the entire summer at the old resorts that once dotted the mountains in a slower, less-hurried time.

We stopped at the Hummingbird Inn on a car trip from Boston to Knoxville to visit in-laws for the 4th. We were travelling for the first time with our new puppy and I found the Inn on a pet friendly website. It is off the beaten path and that is part of the charm. Great historic home (Eleaner Roosevelt stayed there once), gracious pet loving hosts, and a delicious breakfast. We wished we could have stayed for more than one night as there is much to explore in the area.

I stayed at the Hummingbird Inn this New Years Eve, and I have to say that I was extremely impressed! We were greeted at the door with a big smile, given a historical tour of the B&B, and shown to our room (The Eleanor Room). Our room had freshly baked chocolate cookies in it, along with other snacks. We were told that we were welcome to help ourselves to tea/coffee/hot chocolate downstairs as well. We did so, and brought our mugs upstairs to enjoy in front of the warm fireplace. That night, we slept very well in that huge comfy bed. Breakfast the next morning was delicious.A wonderful experience. Plenty of privacy if you wanted it. Ways to be social if you chose, as well. I would stay there again, and would recommend it to others!
