“Beautiful slice of country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

This is a great place to stay for so many reasons. Dan and Patty are great hosts. The house is charming, with plenty of sitting areas and reading material sprinkled throughout. The grounds are beautiful and the wrap-around deck is a great spot to enjoy them from. The beds are extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious both mornings we stayed. And there's a great selection of hot and cold drinks, as well as candies, constantly at your disposal.

And if you're feeling ambitious, there's plenty to do nearby--hot springs, wineries, hiking. Even just driving the country roads around the Inn is a great experience.

My wife and I spent two enjoyable nights at the Hummingbird Inn in Goshen. Dan was out of town but Patty was an excellent host. The entire inn is beautifully maintained, having attractive and comfortable common areas and grounds, lovely guest rooms and baths, delicious breakfasts and snacks. There were games and puzzles as well as porches for relaxing. The surrounding area provides quite a few attractions to keep you busy for a couple of days. We particularly enjoyed seeing the George C. Marshall Foundation Museum in Lexington as well as the carriage ride through the town. The drive along the Maurey River through Goshen Pass is picturesque and the general scenery is beautiful. We recommend the Inn and hope to return.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house are quieter.

Two enjoyable nights were spent at the Hummingbird Inn of Rockbridge County. Dan and Patty proved to be excellent attentive hosts. The Inn is very old with one room having been a trading post during the 1700s. Accomodations were immaculate and well maintained and take guests back to another era when times were less hurried. The surrounding area provides a number of attactions to complete a day. We particularly enjoyed seeing Natural Bridge, the Lee Chapel and Washington and Lee in Lexington, and the Trinity Church in not too distant Staunton. The drive along the Maurey River leading to Goshen is picturesque. We recommend the Inn and hope to return.

My wife and I had a perfect 2 night stay at The Hummingbird Inn recently. The Inn is very large and very comfortable, as well as welcoming. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed just walking around the grounds and going out to the deck by the stream out back. Our bed was very comfortable, and the reclining chairs were very comfy for sitting, relaxing, reading, and yes, napping. The surrounding area is absolutely awesome (in the truest sense of the word), and it truly feels like stepping back in time with a visit to the Hummingbird Inn.

Dan and Patty are superb hosts. Right from the start, when Dan took us on a tour of the Inn and offered a brief history of it, we felt welcome and important. They offered great suggestions of things to do and places to go, and places to eat (or not eat). And then, in the morning, they served an outstanding breakfast. They kept snacks stocked in our room, and there was a very well stocked Keurig machine available 24/7, as well as a small fridge with water and soft drinks in the den.

We definitely would like to return and whole-heartedly recommend them to everyone.

Room Tip: If you have bad knees, the Teter-Wood room might be worth booking, but I managed the steps fine by t...

The Hummingbird Inn was a restful escape from the modern world. Patty and Dan were gracious hosts that made us feel at home. Our room was spotless and very nicely decorated and breakfast was delicious. The inn and its location does offer a glimpse into the past, present and future. The inn was present when the town of Goshen was an up and coming tourist town and sat directly across from the train station in the 1800s. Now it offers us an escape from the stress and rush of our modern world and a destination that lets us enjoy the beauty of nature as well as the beauty of the inn, yet is within easy driving distance of the two lovely towns of Staunton and Lexington. I see the inn having an even more important future as modern life becomes more urban and more stressful. We need to connect with the beauty of nature and with our roots. The Hummingbird Inn is a great place to do both. And yes, there really are hummingbirds, lots of them.

Room Tip: Trains still do pass the Inn, ask for a room in the back for less noise.

My husband and I had a lovely 2 night stay at The Hummingbird Inn recently. The home is very large, the grounds are gorgeous and the king size bed was very comfortable. Dan and Patti are wonderful hosts. They served delicious food for breakfast as well as snacks. They were able to offer great suggestions of things to do and places to see in the area. We will definitely return and recommend them to friends. The only downside was the noise from the passing trains very close to the house.

Quaint little bed and breakfast with beautiful grounds! My first thought? What a beautiful place for a wedding!! Bed was comfortable and we had a private side entrance to our room- we were in the only downstairs room. Good sized inn which allowed for visitors to enjoy the property and not be on top of each other. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Appreciated the hospitality: 24 hour access to beverages (water, soda, coffee, etc) , the baked treats as well as the freedom to utilize their tv, books, puzzles and games. The passing trains didn't last long and though others swear they ran during the night, we never heard one while we slept. Goshen has an interesting history... Be sure to read about it! Goshen is a very small town, but its residents are welcoming. Only downside of the inn is that you really do need to leave Goshen unless you are one who is into the outdoors. Lexington and Staunton are nearby (20-30min) and have a ton of entertainment and restaurant options. If you need recommendations just ask Patti and Dan! Just be prepared when you leave for the day as the inn isn't a place you would easily return to if you wanted to freshen up and then go back out for dinner. We had a great time and are thankful that we came across their Groupon offer!
